Considering that i have been die-hard Kenwood for several years, i'm ready for a change. Out of the Alpine 7939, 7949, and any other model (that is readily available) would you recommend for a good all-around deck with good sound and a little glitz. Oh, and it must be "dry", b/c i have no use for the "in-house amplification". Thanks

I have heard good things about Alpine for years. I personally love my Clarion 9575z.

All I've ever owned is Alpine. That may change now since I don't sell it anymore, but the stuff is very nice. I do NOT care for the current styling, however. IMO last year's were WAY nicer looking...

I have an Alpine CDE-7842...hate the damn thing...It doesnt play scratched cd's...skips if a fly lands on it....cuts off intermittently...etc. I sent it back twice to no avail. NOW, their changer is tough, doesnt skip and is fast as all get out.
I plan on replacing the combo with a Sony CDX-C680 (last years model), since I had one before and LOVED it. I know alot of people don't like Sony, but I liked the basic styling and functionability (is that a word?) of the unit.
I do agree that the new Alpins look cheesy, unfortunatly, the new sony's arent much better.
