I was browsing the net today and ran into a Panasonic headunit that use vaccum tubes, it is not old but very new like 2004, have 2 power meters and looks very hi-end. Can anyone think of the advantage of having a vaccum tube headunit besides saying that you have it and no one else does?

A tube pre amp section in the HU will add "warmth" to the music.
Apparently tube amps/preamps amplify the even harmonics better or something.
To be honest i'm not entirly sure of how it works.
Maybe someone can fill in the blanks.

solid state harmonics are even ordered. your ears like odd ordered. tubes give you odd ordered harmonics= your ears will like tubes better. i do not think there is a car audio tube amp, i think its just preamp tubes. all that moving around will cause big tubes with higher amounts of heat in them to go bad very quickly. maybe a 2x10- 2x25 amp can have a tube output in car audio. when it reaches your ear, it will be ever ordered, so whats the use? i saw that same panasonic deck like 2-3 years ago on ebay, went for like 8-1k.

I know US Amps makes a 4 channel and a 2 channel tube amp TU series, I know Planet Audio used too, and they had a little window in the front that you could view the tubes with. This was back when they made the thick block style heatsink amps that were grey or white with fans in them.

The planet audio amplifier was made for them by Zed Audio
