I've been thinking about getting a remote for my head unit, but I got to thinking. If VCR's, TVs, DVD's, etc. can all be controlled by "universal" remotes why can't car audio components? Has anyone ever tried this? I know it would take a while to go through all the codes of a universal remote to make it work but in theory it should right?

most times home audio equip. have a similar IR set up and you just need codes, but in car some are IR and some are RF or hard wired. I wanted to run a touch screen in my last car and it was more hassle then it was worth.
