Hi, I'm going to install a system in my brothers caddy. It's going to be a h/u with a cd changer, 2 Eclipse 4x6's and 2 Eclips 6x9's (60 and 75 watts rms). I want a good head unit to put a decent signal to the speakers. He wants to spend around 650 for both the deck and changer. I would just get him an Alpine but I heard that their newer h/u's are not as good as the old ones. I'm looking for realy quality sound. Any comments are welcome.
Thanks

Well, a little off track, but an idea would be to spend that money on a MP3 deck, and an Amplifier for the speaks. A seperate amplifier usually sounds way better than deck power.
I think my current MP3 CD has almost 400 tracks on it. You can stick that puppy on random and not hear a single commercial, or the same song, for two weeks easily! So easy to update with KaZaA too.
Say $300 for a sweet MP3 Deck- that leaves $300 for an amp and $50 for amp wires and fuses. A good rule of thumb, is a $1-per-watt is really good, clean power. $300 would easily get you 75 Watts x 4...

Thanks for the reply. My brother doesn't have a computer, nor does he know how to use one. I don't think a mp3 player would be good for him. I was trying to stay simple, by finding a good deck. If there isn't good power in a deck out there, I will have to get a small amp (but I woul rather not). The sterio will not be played that loud.
Thanks again

Any Kenwwod or Pioneer. Also most Caddy's sound real nice by just changing out the speakers and since its not for pounding that may save some $$$.

Dont forget about Alpine. Even the bottom of the line h/u's have nice SQ. Pioneer and Kenwoods are good two. If you want something a little more flashy(IMO) panasonic makes some cool stuff.(basicly only for looks)

Alpine CDA-7893; I think it;s about the best CDplayer for the money. I got mine for $275 shiped on E-bay they are $350 at Crutchfield & Curcit city. The Build quality is SOOO much better than my old Pioneer DEH-P4300 and the Alpine remote it 100% better. the CDA also has the 60wX4 Vdrive amp (27wX4 rms) and the new Alpine CD changers can play MP3's if your brother ever does get a cd burner. that's like 2,000 hours of music all in the changer. I do miss the Pioneers built in EQ but I have found overall sound quality is better with the Alpine.
