you heard bad things about pioneer???? pioneer is a great HU maker, its the subs and amps you gotta stay clear of (you can do better for the money)

screw blaupunkt, IMO they are the ugliest things out and whats up with them naming the HUs after cities?

don't get sony either, they skip way too easy(found out the hard way)

alpine, pioneer, eclipse, clarion are all good quality HUs, just depends on which model you chose.

how much $$$ you looking to spend? any key features you are looking for?

I used to have blaupunkt cd player and unless you have a VW to match it, the damn thing is so ugly and skips like crap. Also the rotary volume control on it fluctuates up and down. I've heard good things about eclipse, alpine, clarion, and pioneer which I use.

Alpine. Get an Alpine.

I can't imagine anything wrong with the Pioneer stuff. Pioneer is a good choice to.

as far as most of your opinions on Sony, i would say stay away from EXPLODE type decks. I have a 4 year old Sony ES with ESP (before the explodes came out) and this has been the best deck ive ever owned.

Every Alpine ive ever owned had a problem within 5 years (mostly the display going out). I even had an alpine that liked to turn itself ALL the way up by itself. I like alpines but damn the bad luck.

Just bought the pioneer p6400cd flip monitor for my tahoe and its pretty nice but i HATE dolphins so i guess i got to deal with it till i sit on the toilet and read how to get rid of them.

just thought id chime in. [Wink]

Why is it everybody thinks Eclipse decks are so expensive? They have 3 decks under $300, all of which would sound better than MANY higher priced decks.

Jomo, the quality of the eclipse decks should all be the same from the $220 piece up to the CD8062. It is all about output voltage and features. For $220, you get 2 sets of RCA outs for example, 2.7 volt outs(at 330 ohms..i would still take that output over many "4 volt" decks), no remote, etc. As you go up in line, you get more features such as motorized face(some like it, some don't), 3 sets of RCAs, remote, etc...then you get into the 5 volt deck, then the 2 8 volt decks.

Yes, they are worth it. They aren't that expensive anyway(yes, you can get an expensive eclipse, but you can easily spend as much money or MORE on an alpine or pioneer).

I've NEVER had any type of problem with an Alpine deck. Alpine rules!

Pioneer sucks [Wink] , the only cool about them is the dolphins and that gets old after 15min. [Razz]

I would disagree on the JVC, but only on the Digifine 2.1's...very nice HU's, and the best speed when it comes to MP3's for a CD based unit.

imo buy the cheaper lines and you get what you pay for (excluding eclipse, nakimichi)

i've never dealt with sony, they don't impress me.

blaupunkt's may be ugly but they are one of the best decks for high power systems. one of the only decks that use potetiometers (sp?) for a volume control, smooth increase that won't blow subs. look at some of the top spl competitors and the decks they use, bet you'll see alot of blaupunkt's.

myself, i love my old clarion 8575z. rotory volume, easy to see display, dimmer, easy station presents great quality, 4volt out 3 pairs on and on. it's awesome.

my pioneer premier 730, best part of this deck is the built in dsp and rotory volume. i don't like the erginomics of this deck. station presents are too small and hard to see while driving. menus are too complicated. but again, awesome quality high volt out, 3 pairs. ect.

my next deck is on order. kenwood z910dvd. has a video output for a screen but it doens't have an attached screen. as for the rest, i'll let you know this summer how i like it.

ps: i'm not bashing, just stating likes and dislikes, companies that read this should take note, not offense, i fear they don't get enough honest feedback on their products...how are they supposed to improve them?
