the components in question are an old Eclipse ECD 416 and a Rockford PA2 preamp mounted directly below the deck.
All is fine and dandy, untill I've driven for about an hour or so, and then the deck and preamp get pretty hot. This, combined with having the heat on (Chicago/winter), seems to cause the laser to not read the cd well. It will skip horribly, and then when I remove the cd and put it back it, it will struggle to start playing it.
note 1, this really only happens with CD-R's/CD-WR's. if I put in a real cd, then it works almost good as normal.
note 2, the cds are stinkin HOT when they come out.
I put a 4 inch fan back behind the components to try to cool them off, but even having that on continuously did not seem to help.
After leaving the system off for a while, everything cools back down, and it works fine again.
Why is this? Shouldn't the laser be able to handle high temps? What can be done?
