ok, i understand the rules governing dynamat.

my question is in regards to 2 layers.

now, 2 layers at any given point, that part is self explanatory.

but what if, lets say i dynamat my roof, or my doors, etc... and i do 2 layers.

at some point, its almost a given that my rows of sheets next to each other, particularly in awkqard locations, there might be some overlap.

inimal of course, say, i've got a layer down, that went on perfect. then my second layer doesnt go on so perfect, and i get say a 1/4" overlap on the seam. that would in fact creat three layers. granted the 3 layer point would only be 1/4" but still in hard written and enforced rules, that would in fact be 3 layers.

would this be a dq? or is it unwritten and understood that occasionly there may be a minimal third layer due to overlap?

i jsut want to know BEFORE i finish coating the inside of the car. it could be the differance of an extra couple of days to be more cautious when installing the mat.

thanks [Smile]

No overlaps.

Two layers is that, two layers.

I've always wondered.. if I put in 2 layers of 1mm thick matting, can you put 2mm of SD paint over the top ? Thats 4mm thick (or less) at any given point, and only 2 layers of matting.

why get around the rules? Why paint the dynamat. First thing I think of is some trying to cheat.

How do you determine a layer of spray on? You can't...

with spray on, true, you do not determine how many layers there are, but you still have a thickness, and the thickness is measured.

if you spray over a mat, that is a "layer" regardless of how thick the layer is, its still a layer.

Sound damping materials may be used to reduce vibration when installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommended installation instructions. The maximum total thickness of sound damping material applied at any given location may not exceed 5/32 inch (4mm). The sound damping application may consist of mat-type material, spray-on material, or a combination of the two. A maximum of 2 layers of mat-type material may be used at any given location, even if the total thickness of the sound damping material(s) is less than 5/32 inch (4mm).

why would anyone spray paint dynamat unless they figured they could manipulate the rules and have an advantage over someone else

To say they want something that is going to be covered anyway to look good is BS
