Does the window tint rule apply to colored tints that are transparent such as reds and yellows used in graphic designs or does the rule apply to tints that are darkened or reflective as to impede the view into ihe interior. I would appreciate responses to this as I am in the procces of painting my vehicle...FINALLY... [Big Grin] [Eek!] and the graphics could flow into the window area.

on the same subject.. does a judge need to be able to see into the vehicle from a specific distance? or can they cup thier hands on the window, as long as they can see in, etc...

ie: my car has some pretty dark tint, 2 shades darker than legal, but not limo tint. you CAN see in my windows, but not from 4 or 5 feet away, depending on light conditions.

its also my daily driver, and im not willing to pull it off.

and as in the first post, when i repaint this summer, i may end up going with some graphics in the tint as well.

4-5 The officiating staff must be afforded a clear view inside of the vehicle when looking through the windshield and side windows of the vehicle. Window tint, stickers, or other materials which could occlude the judge’s view may not be placed on the windshield within a 6 inch (15.24 cm) radius of the sensor placement location.

I had to remove the tint off my windshield at finals. It was 35%! My side windows were like 10% and I was told that they were fine.

If you are in "street" class why would you have your windshield tinted in the first place?

As I understand the rule it applies to the 4sq. foot/100 whatever sq. inch area on the windsheild and front side windows. It states that there must be a clear wiew though these areas so darkening or reflective tint seems to not be allowed but does that apply to colored tints which are TRANSPARENT which still allow a view into the interior. That is what im trying to clarify

It sayes a 6" radius around the sencor thats a 6" round hole dosent say the side window has to be transparent now Im really confussed. Like at finals I took all the tint off my car and when I got there there were several cars trucks or vans that were tinted DARK and some had Covers over the windows. I though they were not allowed last year at finals??

I have 35% on my windshield, the the rest of the car is double tinted with 5 & 15%. Dont think I'd want to pull that much tint off of my car just to compete at finals. Pretty dumb rule in my opinion. Thats like $200+ in tint. I can understand the windshield tint but the rest is pretty silly.

4-3 a.g
The unobstructed viewing area for the front windshield must be 4 square feet (0.3716m^2) or larger. The unobstructed viewing area must be symmetrical in nature, with equivalent transparent areas on both the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle. Important: Only areas of the windshield that are not impeded in any way will be considered unobstructed. This includes window tint.

So windshield must be still total clear ?

If it is in the Extreme section then it applies only to extreme vehicles.

Remember that the main thing the Extreme competitors need to look at it written in RED. These are the rules that are specific to your division.

The rule seems pretty clear to me.

When you quit trying to find ways around the rule I think you will understand it better.

Extreme - no tint in the 4 sq ft viewing area

Other classes - nothing within 6" radius around the mic sensor to keep the judges from seeing it.

yes you can have tint on the front window, but if we can't see the sensor, you might be asked to remove tint within 6" around the sensor

so i dont have to remove my side and rear window tint. thats all i care about. not willing to have my equipment stolen from a kroger parking lot just so i can compete in dbdrag.

anyone CAN see in my windows, you just have to be close.

front window - no tint anyway. wouldnt be legal to drive if it was.

Why cant we have tint on our front window?? We are the ones that want to keep the inside of the cab for being seen. Street cars are the ones that should be more street legal even though there not.

I have 3% tint on my street B car (which is legal on the rear windows). Its not solid, so you can still see in it (maybe with a flashlight). I have 35% on the windshield, but I could remove that. Tint is not the only street illegal thing you'll find on a street car. Sounds like an extremly silly rule.

Will I be DQ'd at finals because of dark side window tint that is less then 5%?

You can still tint your side windows in extreme.
Imo street should be the same, only tint on the side windows. At finals you could see in every extreme vechicle there! But not so much in street unless you asked them to open the doors for you. Not seeing in vechicles makes it not as much fun.

it actually makes perfect sense to me.

i assume its so judges can see whats going on inside your car, while its in the lanes.

ie: no cheating going on inside.

steve, lucky you.. we cant have tint on thefront here. instant ticket. my side windows are darker than they should be, but ive only been puleld over once. i explained to the cop about my system ,and he let me roll without a ticket [Smile] but "suggested" that i get lighter tint on the two front sides lol
