Well, I've been reading these and I think that I might have a winner .
2 things went wrong with my first S-10, had three systems in it before I finally sold it for the BII.
However, first I found the Perfect Tape deck!! A Blaupunkt Malibu, and it was sweet (for 1991/1992)! But, I hadn't done any installing, aside from factory-replacement speakers. So I let a, now defunct, Super-Store do the install. Within a couple of weeks, things started to go kinda hay-wire with my taillights. They'd flash on and off at will. So, my parents followed my sister and me to Pizza Hut and when we got there they were gasping at the amount of times that my taillights flashed on and off. Meanwhile we had to roll the windows down because of an acrid smell that just couldn't be placed. Come to find out, the truck's wiring harness was melting!! $750 replacement, the store paid for 1/2 of it.
The second thing was my goof. Taught me to always double check things and take the time to do it right the first time!! Didn't know that I should use a ringed-terminator and screw for the ground wire from the amp to the truck. So I did the lovely twist/splice action through one of the pre-made holes on the truck. Didn't think it was a problem, then one day I went to start the truck and had a cannon shot echo through my chest!! The connection slipped, grounded out the truck and blew the battery!! I've laughed about it ever since, but damn that was bizarre as hell, considering that I was at the shop to pick someone up with car trouble . Needless to say, I triple-check all wiring now .
