Yeah, I am one of those dummies who has locked themselves out of the car while in the lanes. Everyone laughing at me while I try to break into my car. Oh well... I can laugh at myself now..

About two years ago, a customer that lived in Albuquerque NM trailered his cadillac to my shop in Phoenix AZ. After he arrived with the vehicle we went over a few of the details of the installation while getting ready to back the car off the trailer. When all of a sudden he stops and begins to search through his pockets. While he ransacked the tow vehicle, I went for my lockout equipment. By the time I returned to the trailer he had spread all of his luggage, and it's contents, across the parking lot. While I opened the car, he tried to retrace the days events, eventually he remembered where he had the keys last.
About an hour out of Albuquerque, he had stopped to get some CD's out of the car for the ride ahead. It seems that after obtaining the music, he locked the doors, and set the keys on the fender of the trailer.
So after removing the steering wheel and lock cylinder, we finally got the car into the bay, and two days later I received a Fedex envelope with his spare set of keys and remote for his Alpine security system.

i dont have a set of spare keys for my camaro since they have a chip in the key and im too cheap. when i lcked my keys in my friend had a bottle opener on him for some reason and we stuck it in the passenger side keyhole and turned and the door unlocked like nothing. i got my keys out and tested to see how hard it is to unlock my door and i can do it with a quarter. does that sound a little easy to anyone?

Well I don't know how many of you own dodge dakota but I was working on my friends during the winter while he was home in Illinois. I was getting ready to pick some stuff up so I started the truck, turned on the heat and realized I forgot something. Shut the door, ran in the garage grabbed it, came back out... DOOR LOCKED! So my friend is 1100 miles away, no spare key, engine running. Apparently with the dakotas as soon as you start the truck the doors lock even if the doors are open. Since I had the door open it locked and then I shut it. I would imagine a lot of people have done this. I ended up popping the back window open with a screwdriver and a coat hanger and then hit the power lock switch with a piece of wood. Well after losing an hour of my time and an 1/8 tank of gas it was still pretty funny.

As a locksmith i can tell you not all systems work like that. Some newer Fords have transponders in them that make it VERY expensive to even get copies. Some Toyotas if you lose all your keys, you cannot even change the key switch, you must buy a new computer for the car. The computer comes with 2 new keys($1000 to $2000) depending on the dealer. I tell people all day long it is no longer good just to have 1 spare, but have 2 or 3.
Hope that helps..

Just locking your keys in the car is nothing. But locking your keys in the car with the stereo blaring is a true act of stupidity.
I did this when I had just built a vented box for my 10 inch audiobhan aw1051x, so like most people I wanted to see how loud it was out side of the car, so I cranked the stereo up and slammed the door shut, only to realize that the doors were locked with my keys in the ignition, so now I’m standing locked out of my car while my system is blaring. Lucky for me my dad had an extra key
