When I was installing as a profession, I had the oppurtunity to be an ass-man (asst. manager) at an alarm shop in St. Louis (Jim Belotes). Anyway, we had an installer come to work for us, one who had a "checkered" past. He had worked at Best Buy, and burnt a harness in a car, worked a couple of other shops and did various minor damage to customers cars. Anyway, this will sound really bad, but we hired him to see how long he could go without burning something up. He was there for about 3 weeks, when his nemesis rolled into our bay. A brand new, Old's Aurora. It was very pretty, with only about 25 miles on the odometer. Guess who got the job? Yep. After fiddling with the problematic (for him) locks, light flash, and various other major ordeals, he was done! And, the install was relatively clean! We thought all was good, and he had started to really learn something! Until he backed it out to demo it for the customer. He started his little speech, arming and disarming, showing shock sensitivity and everything else. The last thing to demo was trunk pop (something he HADN'T had a problem with). He pushes the trunk button on the remote, nothing! He presses again, NOTHING! Now he's starting to look bad, like he hadnt done the trunk pop, so he hits it again, and holds the button for a couple of seconds. PRESTO! the trunk opens, and he hears a strange noise from the release selenoid, followed by, what can only be best described as a total wiring harness meltdown! I really mean total! The car went back to GM for a COMPLETE wiring harness, of course we paid for it. Never in my life have I seen something as funny and sad and maddening, all at the same time. All I could do was sit in my office and laugh, until the fire department showed up. He packed his tools and started his job search the next morning. We never could figure out what he had done, all traces of evidence were up in smoke!
