While cruising the club district Friday night, we pulled up behind some folks that thought they had an impressive system in their car. Not to be outdone, I went ahead and turned up my system while we were waiting to go from a four-way stop. There were quite a few folks waiting outside to go into the various clubs, and I think that the 15's were doing there job about 100 people jerked their heads around when the first bass drop hit.
Regretably, 5 of those 100 people happened to be police officers...
Before I can even touch the volume-knob I have 5 douch-bags running towards me waving flashlights. Ofcourse, I was sited and harrassed for a little while, meanwhile that district is crawling with bums, vagrants, panhandlers and crackheads bothering patrons on their night out. Good thing they took care of the "real" problem. (a loud stereo playing in an industrial/club district that has loud music spilling onto the streets everywhere)
I plan on taking the "where was the decible meter?" approach, and baking that up with the fact that that area is exempt from normal noise ordinances because of the clubs. Anyone else have any input on beating stereo tickets in court???
Oh, and here's what it says in the officer's remarks on the ticket:
"loud stereo- Subjet's stereo was so loud that it could be heard by observing officer over the music coming from the club inside another building 50' away."
The best part, was that I ran into the cop that wrote me ticket in the club the next night! They were in uniform "cruising the dance floor" and he started mean-mugging me. I just smiled real big and waved. Strangely enough, I got followed out of the club by some different cops, then pulled 15 minutes later. Hmmmm.... I was sited for my tires being to bald. (they have about 50% tread leaft) I asked them if this could possibly have anything to do with the B.S. I got on Friday night and he said "I don't know what you're talking about."
I'm actually glad, because now it will look like harrassment in court.

Good luck with the dB meter thing.. When I got pulled over in my city, I tried that and the judge told me the city ordinance (industrial or not) for vehicles was 75 feet.. I've seen friends get nailed with stock stereo's in their moms minivans ...
And 50% tread should be legal shouldn't it? That's what the wear bars are on the tires for I thought..
Good luck with all that

this is obvisously not a free country becasue you can't even listen to your music anymore.i admit the world would be crazy with out police, but only if they would get the real criminals and leave the little **** alone. i think loud sound shouldn't be aloud in residental ares, but should be aloud on highways, and commercial zoned areas. if you look on the web, theres lots of web sites for people against loud sound, who talk about loud music an train horns ect. when it really comes down to it i play my bass everywhere, i don't care about tickets anymore.

bumpinpontiac - Isn't there some kind of dB Drag creed your supposed to abide by?
And at least here in Chilton is $180 for the first 3 I believe, then after that they impound until you remove it...

In Decatur Illinois if you Violate the Sound Ordinanceon the first offense they impound your car take it to the shadiest impound yard in the hood and keep it unlocked for about 12 hours and when it is all said and done costs you about $720. It is so bad here that the only real mom and pop Custom shop saw about a 40% decrease in income and now is an internet dealer

I got one last year here where I live and it was $90. The cop told me it was a no tolerence policy and it couldn't be disputed. A couple of years before that I got a warning for loud music and the cop said that he could hear me coming for at least a quarter of a mile before he saw me. I don't blame him, at the time I had 2 RF power dvc 15's in a wall with 2 rf 1100a2's. It was loud enough to get a ticket pretty much anywhere. I found it hard to believe I only got a warning. It might have been because the area I was in was considered a village and not a city. Maybe they didn't actually have a sound ordinance.

Around here he technically didn't break the law.. idk about where he is.. but here, if its in industrial or commercial zoned areas, sound ordinance is exempt.. Depends what it was zoned where he was..

here, it doesnt matter how far, just as long as they can ehar it. the cop can be walking on the sidewalk 5 feet from your car, and if he hears ANYTHING at all, thats yo' azz.

here in Louisville, they follow it like we think it should be.
Tickets are served in residential areas, areas with high public traffic like restaurants and in a stopped position where you could annoy others such as red light.
Anywhere else, doesnt matter. Fines here are high 250 500 1000 remove or lose car.
And i cant believe a cop would pull someone over due to tread on tires....
We got people with turbos and the loudest exhaust systems possible cruising the streets with cops around them and they dont care.
