Guy comes in to get a radio and iPod cable in his 02 Trailblazer saying his bro tried to do a sat radio in it and now the radio and dash lights dont work. I pop the underdash to find the wires he hooked up and the dash surround for the radio. I see a red wire scotch locked to the brown ignition wire, ok, thats a start. I popped out the radio and see a constant wire hooked up to data wire on the radio and about 4" of naked wire wrapped around a metal hole that the radio slids into in the back.
Ok its getting worse. I unplug the radio and cut the wires and go to unplug the antenna, guess what? No antenna wires, its an rca plugged into the hole instead! WTF?
I unplug it and drop the glovebox only to see this:
I start checking more into it and see where the other end of the rca goes, and I see this:
They scotch locked the rca to the output of the rf mod to get the antenna signal to the radio! In the other side of the rf box is another rca, but this one had the plastic kinda shaved down so it can fit!
I took it all out and told the guy I wouldn't trust his brother to change the spark plug out on my lawnmower! Heres the left over: For the most part thats how i took it out of the truckfrom behind the glovebox
Cliff notes: customer didnt use antenna adaptors and instead used rcas and didnt even do that right and hooked up the power all wrong and didnt trim the wire or even make it look decent.

Hey im his brother, I thought I did a good job, that was my 4th one to do! The first 3 where kinda ghetto. But I thought I did everything right on his truck. lol jkjkjk
I just want to cry when I get ghetto jobs like that in to fix.

so your telling me that RCAs DON't work in the antenna plug, Damn, I knew I was doing something wrong. I have been installing SAT radios and D changers like that for 10 years now and I have never had a customer come back to me. Actually they have never come back to me for repeat business either, damn. Just Kidding. This kind of stuff kills me. I always loved the AV head unit brain or SAT radio module shoved under the carpet with a rats nest of wires. Makes a nice hump where the passenger's feet are. Maybe it's an ottoman for a car.

Thats ugly...all the more reasons I am not a installer.
