do none of you disconnect the battery before doing any type of wiring? honestly i refuse to disconnect because my truck doesn't want to start when the computer has to relearn the codes. 01 silverado with the 4.8 vortec btw. i've crossed the wires a couple times and accidently brushed the power wire on the metal that attaches to the floor pan. one thing i'm pondering is why some companies don't even fuse their amps. my crossfire vr600d could have been fried this morning when i was hooking it back up because my power and ground are the same color.

NO. i just don't think it's a good idea for a company not to put fuses on their amps [Wink] it's also not a good idea to wire amps in hot but we all do it anyway [Razz]

My thing wasn't when i was wiring in the back... I had finished everything, and was putting the 4 lengths of 0ga to the batt... didnt have my Stingers in, just running the truck of an advance auto titanium.... so... I dead shorted a 800cca batter with 4 leads of 0 ga... tried to pull cables off... there was a poof... and things were burning... (ALWAYS WERE SAFETY GLASSES) I got the contact out of my left eye and flushed... by the time I got the 2nd one out... it was half melted... and ever since... right side visions been a blur... apparently its hard to fix an acid wound on ur eye...

Thats why... I try never to hook anything up backwards... and why (now my ex, she did do 15 minute deck installs) doesn't help me with any wiring or labeling...

I went to uninstall the under car neon from my pathfinder this past summer. It hadnt been working for a while - was really frustrating - I had replaced the transformer under the hood twice and just had tons of problems with it. I was fed up and had to get it out of there.

So I cut all the wires, yank all the tubes and wow - I found the problem. The shop that installed it - didnt know what to do with the "excess" wire on the tubes - so they wrapped it around the exhaust pipe.....with no shielding. Yeah, didnt take long to melt that puppy.

The easiest way to blow a dvc sub is if the markings for polarity are worn off so by accident you wire the voice coils opposite phase then you hook your two ohm load in mono to a rockford 125 watt by 2 and try to bump it a few times. Ooops!!

Actually - even easier - plug the speaker into a wall outlet. 120v AC will fry any sub in no time at all.

Although - thats not a mistake people are likely to make. But it IS an observation.

I let a wrench hit the battery terminals in the trunk once and contribue to a batteries eventual downfall.
I had a fuse way more then 18 inch away from a battery once that melted the **** out of the fuse holder.
I killed one DEI 1500d doing the pos to neg and neg to positive trick.

I should take my time....

Classic.

I have had a few problems in the past but nothing is standing out at the moment.

Just recently - I built a new amp rack and did it fairly sloppily (i guess) - anyway - while driving it collapsed sending the top board crashing down (weighted by my 2 12's and another amp and boxes) down on top of the 4 channel amp and the fuse block and so forth - pulling out a few wires causing a few sparks. Oh that was fun. It was all wired ok - but a bit more glue and a few staples (maybe some bracing) can work wonders. Just gotta love that [Smile]
