my first stereo install was on amy friends 92 for tempo, at this point all i knew was nothing! i used two guitars amps i had torn aprt to fit in the car nicely with a inberter to power them. one amp powerd the only decent part of the install which was two jl audio w-o 8 inch subwoofers topped off with two 6,5 inch no name walmart subs installed under the seats with no box, this was all with a stock deck sp i hade splicedinto the speaker wire with a gutair cord i had cut into to get audio to the amps and the funny thing is it didnt sound to bad till the amp powering the jls started to smoke which was also in the cab of the car so u could control the volume of the subs.

good times!

Mine was 2 walmart 6.5" tubes subs in the backseat of my cavalier, running off a power acoustik amp (which I still have) gain turned all the way up. 16g power and ground wire running through the car and through the door jamb then under the hood, no fuse. I would almost trip over the wires when I got out of the car. I had a walmart HU (which i still have...sigh) that I didnt have a mounting bracket for so it would fall out and smash into the shifter knob all the time.

Hum...since I never owned a car until my college year I never installed a car audio system without knowing how things work(probably a good thing), but my first car audio instll includes an old Kenwood deck that doesn't play CD-Rs, a pair of Polk Aduio 6 1/2 in front and no rear speakers, a Crossfire CFA1000D and 2 10" RF Punch in a slot ported box...in an 89 Taurus [Smile]

I blew the subs 4 days after I put them in [Embarrassed] , then I put 2 10" Pioneer Wal Mart subs in the same box and I cracked the cone 2 weeks after...

mine was

1 8" 8 ohm home sub in a home speaker box
1 10" pyramid sub inverse mounted on another home speaker box
1 small (240w I think) pyramid amp, I forgot how it was wired
1 Panasonic Discman used for input to the subs. Keep in mind by doing this that I had no control over my audio (not that I could really hear it anyway). To change a song or do anything I had to pull over, open the trunk and access the discman [Big Grin] .

all wiring was spliced from who knows where, I didn't do any run of wire from the battery to the trunk so it's safe to say I was running a 16 awg power into the amp, not that it drew enough current to require a larger wire.

All this was done probably 5 years ago when I was 16. Oh god how far I have come since then [Smile]

my first install, and first system was in my 1984 Cavalier Wagon. it was a jensen cd player that glows red at night (hehe i thought it was cool but it blew ass), pioneer 3.5's in the front, they came with the car i ran these off the HU. then a 600w 4 channel jensen amp running 2 12" Jensen XS subs the ones with the pretty shinny blue cone, and 2 10" pioneer 350w subs. the wiring was so bad it was funny, power wire running through the firewall no gromet, i had a fuse i wasnt to stupid then. the 10's and 12's sadly were in the same box same chamber and now that i think of it in total it was about 5 cubes for all the speakers. it sounded like **** but i was 15 so i didnt really care much.

i then went and bought a crappy 80 watt amp from wal mart i think road gear, and hooked it up to the 10s so i could use all the power from the jensen for the 12's it didnt work out to well either.

all this cost me less then 300 dollars.
