Why is it that all of the stereo shops that I have ever been to suck. Most have decent equipment, some have knowgable staff, but it allways seems that they try to sell me **** I don't need ar want. A place i went to not to long ago sold me a JL amp and I paid extra for a warenty, but the amp took a s#@t and when I took it back to get it replaced they wanted me to wait 2mos so they could send it in to JL to see if it could be fixed ect... And then suddenly the warenty I purchassed became worthless and sudddenly didn't exist. Thats just one example of how a shop screwed me, but so far EVERY one I have gone to eigther screwed me or tried to screw me. atleast I have the internet as a resource to go :

Damn that sucks. Around here if you get extra warranty and something goes bad they replace right then and their...if its not in stock they either special order a new one or transfer it from another store...I would never shop at a store that did what they did to you.

the extra warenty I purcahsed for $150 was supossed to cover any problems right then and there, but it didn't and I got screwed. I try to shop at thoes places just for the warenties but that is the last time I ever go to a shop unless I know someone there. Most of these places are a rip off. If anyone here eighther owns a shop or works at a shop that offers a warenty like that on there items and can prove it prior to a purchase I will be happy to shop and spend a little more to get the products that I want shipped to me right now I am looking to get an amp for my subs some 8's for my doors an amp for them, some canton's and another amp for them and an eq and possibly a in-dash cd\dvd\mp3\nav source unit to replace my existing pioneer HU. As you can see I am going to be spending alot $$$$ and want good service that is backed up that is the reason I am willing to pay more. I like to support the local guys, but they have all screwed me after A fairly large purchase. I figure that is the sort of customer you would want to take care of the best because they will probebly keep comeing back.

That's how the stereo shop I frequent works. I blew a JL10W0 a few years ago and it was replaced on the spot.
Selling a warranty?? Shouldn't that come with the product in the first place? This didn't sound like an extended warranty (like CC offers).

Contact JL about this shop - give them all the details including serial # on your amp. If nothing else, JL will handle this shop's warranty issues. These acts don't sound like something a reputable JL authorized dealer would do - and if they are authorized I'm sure JL would want to know how they are treating their customers.

*NOD*.
All of the shops that I've been to have replaced stuff on the spot. The most I ever had to pay out of pocket was for shipping for an RF sub that I bought at one shop, but had to get replaced at another (bought at home, replaced at college).
Companies don't like it when their customers get stepped on - we're the ones who purchase gear, pay for their salaries, and can convince other potential customers to purchase their gear or someone elses'. Customer opinion can go a long way - let them know what happened.
The shop may try to appeal your comments and have a different story (be prepared for that possibility). If you have it (receipts, documents from shop, etc.) in writing, make copies of it and send the copies into JL with your letter (or e-mail [assuming copies are scanned into computer]).

Are you sure it wasn't one of those warranties that are only valid if the equipment was installed buy an authorized dealer or one that needed to be inspected by an authorized dealer if you installed yourself? I know the book for my 12w3v2's say this but the shop I bought them from did not. They just said I got a two year warranty (or maybe it was 1 year). But they knew I was installing them myself and approved my amp for them.
Or maybe it's like you said, you just got screwed!

i havnt bought retail gear since '99 and that was my first system
ive learned that retail prices are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over the top and the guys who work there dont know crap about car audio, its funny to listen to them spew a bunch of bs at you and know that all they said was the opposite of the truth, unless you have connections at a shop try and stear clear of them at least by yourself
always go into a stereo shop with a knowledgable person who knows whats up and can filter out all the crap the salesman is trying to talk

This sounds like a third party warrenty that some shops sell. It is from a company that is like an insurance company that handles the repair/replacement issuse themselves.
If the amp is still under a factory warrenty you can take it to any dealer and have the warrenty honored. The last time I checked the warrenty for cash and carry on JL is 90 days on amps and 2 years if installed by a dealer.

Im tired of the same stereo shops that sell the same ****. It was a eye-brow raiser to see Focal at a shop around here. But im tired of Kenwood, Sony, RF, JL Audio, Kicker, Pioneer, and theres more brands you can throw into that catogory, it just doesn't seem we can get a good selection. If you wanna check out 2-way or 3-way comp sets around here GOOD LUCK. Because theres nothing but Boston Acoustics and MB Quart really.

FYI Some shops may not be able to replace the items on the spot due to variances in inventory BUT, By the same token you will have the tendency to get better service from the small guys.... When my clients blow a sub I will send it back to the manufacturer for repair replacement. If the manufacturer says " Hey this is not a warranteeable situation , I call the clientr and offer them options, fix it and in some cases resell them a new unit @ dead cost plus shipping. but because in most terms it is a user issue / over driving a sub not correctly powering an amp ect the only thing that I ask is for my clients to pay for the shipping everything else is of the manufacturer. I mark my items well below the "MAP" Prices cause my clients know Im not there to stiff them into crap they do not need. Which case in point is why I got into the industry. I had sponsors the to them even as a sponsored vehicle I promoted them weekly at comps and still was just a # to them. MY Customers know when they come to me I will support them to no end..... Case in Point: I drove from miami to NOPI in atlanta to help present a vehicle for NOPI . I didnt get paid for it, ITS JUST THE RIGHT THIING TO DO! THE WEEKEND COST ME MORE THAN WHAT I MADE ON THE JOB!. But thats service and support. Hell most of my clients have a phone # so if they need me they can reach me at home.... LOL PS call Lisa in customer service at JL in miramar Fl. She is the supervisor of customer Svc. and a gem of a lady. If she cant get the issue squared away for you Noone can. PS If even in fl Take a tour of JL's Facility Its very impressive... PS Im not a JL Dealer either!!!! Jamie

In response to one other post 90 percent of manufacturers as you know serialize their items they arte then serialized to a particular store yes if you bout an amp at one "Tweeter or sound advice store you could return or replace it at another. but if you bought it at lets say for the sake of those who may be in fl.... at speaker warehouse, audio Logic will not and cannot have the item serviced. Manufaturers require the original manufacturers invoice as well as a copy of the sales receipt in order to prove valid date of sale for warranty service Hope this may clarify things a bit..... Final point unless it is a major chain store like tweeter or best buy ....ect Read the extended warranty first if they say it will be replaced no questions asked Get the thing in writing..... If they still play that game afterwards call CEA the BBB and then you file a small claims suit for " quantum Meriut" or breech of contract Been there done that! Hope that helps Jamie

hey wlint, what store in DC did you go to? I manage a shop in springfield va, you should here to get your stuff yea a word of advice, those extra warranties dont exist from companies like JL, its just a way for them to get more money from you. Make sure its an "over the counter exchange" like Orions 2 year warranty. Whenever something goes wrong from Orion, i switch it out on the spot. Since the internet usually has better prices, shops have to make up for it for customer service. Atleast thats how we do it.

This sounds like Future Shop up here in canada... I bought the extended warranty on my deck, since they told me that if at any time the deck didn't work as well as the day I bought it then I could bring it in, no questions asked, and walk out with a new one. then when I did have a problem, I brought it in, and they told me that I had to wait 30 days for them to try to repair it, and if they couldn't fix it in 30 days, then they'd give me a portion of the price towards a new deck, since that model had been discontinued.
any extended warranty is a waste of money, it's simply a money grab, and a lot of places, like circuit city and future shop, have quotas for their employees to sell extended warranties, so they'll say anything to get you to buy the warranty just so they don't get fired

Wow...I thought Future Shop was just Best Buy in Canada. If you buy the PSP at Best Buy and something happens, they do the 30 day thing, but you get all the money back, no questions asked.
