Ok today I walk into ABC becuase I needed to get some stuff to put in my Premier 740 mp. I know its abc but I didn't want to drive 40 miles to a real shop but anyways here's the story while I ask them to get me a metra install kit and wiring harness this guy proceeds to tell me that I can't possibly install an aftermaket Head in my car because its a 2002 camaro with the monsoon option. He then rethinks his statement an tells me that I might beable to if I relocate the head so it will still run the monsoon stuff or possible rewire the whole car. ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS WTF!!!!!!

When I went to get my HU installed at a shop in my 95 Camaro the guy told me I had to get some sorta adapter thing to use with the Bose. I had heard this before but didnt think of it before I went in. I told him I couldnt afford it so he leaves and comes back in like 10 min. and tells me the HU is installed and he's finished.

Rewiring that factory amp is not that difficult. You have to take a lot of the panels off to get to the amp, but pretty much you just test the outputs of the amp to get the speakers and then run new speaker wire up to the HU. Make sure to check polarity. Negative is usually on the clip side of factory plugs when the wires are together. Easiest way to do it, check the front kick panels, sometimes you can find plugs for the factory amp there, otherwise, the amp may be behind the stock HU or under the back seat. Find the wires, "pop" the speakers to figure out which wire is which speaker, and connect. Takes about 1-2 hours, but I would think it's worth it for a new Pioneer Premier deck [Smile] Any questions just email me via the board. PC

Just to let you know some things about the monsoon system and GM's Class 2 data bus system they use in almost all of their cars now:
1. You can put a new head unit in.
2. If you do remove the head unit and do not relocate, try NOT to remove the amplifier completely. (If you do It can cause communication problems inside the car)
3. You will lose your door chime. (unless you buy the part from metra or soundgate that allows you to retain the Chime approximately $75)
4. There is no 12v+ ign behind the radio a new fused ign will have to be run
5. Amp bypasses in the monsoon system take time and lots of money for a shop to do it, also a passive crossover network has to be installed because the crossovers for the tweets are built into the amp. And i am sure you don't want the monsoon sub running full range off your new Head unit! so ditch that pansy little sub and get something nice in there.(PS-bypassin VW monsoon= Easy as Pie, GM monsoon=annoying)
6. Your radio probably displays vehicle information also depending on trim level, so you may want to relocate the radio, we have some dealerships around here that will not work on a 2000+ GM if the factory radio has been removed.
7. Not all ABC garages are bad! Mine is doing just fine. Come see me if you are ever in Portage, MI

yea, my friend has a 2001 aztec and he had to place the stock head unit under the passenger seat to 1. get it hidden and 2. so the headlights, keyless entry, and numerous other things would still work. [Big Grin]

None of the dealerships around here will work on the new GM vehicles without the stock radio being in the vehicle somewhere. Just use the metra 70-2003t harness.
