I nave had a similar experience with elderly people complaining about my stereo. There is a guy who lives almose three streets away from me (just over a half a mile through houses and trees)and he said that he could hear my stereo so he complained to the cops and of course they came over and gave me some sh!t and then my dad asked them to leave our property. Well that was enough to piss me off so my whole stereo crew now makes it a point to do some loud ass sine sweeps as we pass his place.

keep your windows down, if you do that, you should have no worries, unless cops are super big dicks.

Well here in Polk County (Lakeland,Fl)It is illegal to play music basicly.
They have made it illegal to play on private property if heard over 50 feet,so I can't play driving down the road, and I can't play out in the woods.
Not that this has ever stopped me from playing my music but the fine sucks and first offense is a trip to a class on noise ordinance and you are forced to listen to classical music.....WITH NO BASS! uhhhg!
So this means there are no bass competitions here, and the stereo shops have lost alot of bussiness.
What gets me is areas that are industrial zoned(so loud noise's are ok)but it is still considered 50 feet away,or in public,or on private property. You can't win here with these hill billy redneck cranksters of polititians.
I hate POLK COUNTY you fugging pigs!

Daaaaam, I guess I've been real lucky....Since about 1993 I've had(and this is a conservative estimate) about 20 different noise ordanance warnings, but I have been able to talk myself outta of em....I'm marked in my home town where the sheriff followed me home one day to tell me I was real close to getting a ticket and that he warned me before. I told him that was over a year ago and he said he hadn't forgotten......It's getting real out there so bassheads be careful and keep your finger on the mute button.... [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

[rant]You invaded his right to peace and quiet on his own property. He got upset, so he called the cops on you. So now you decide to bother him further by going out of your way to piss him off?

I have to listen to my neighbors' systems on a daily basis and I f**kn' hate it. I enjoy listening to loud music, yet I also know NOT to invade others' right to a quiet home.

I have a suggestion for anyone who feels it is not important to respect others' right to privacy. Please list your home address here in this thread so that we can drive past while doing sine sweeps at full blast since you think it's so cool [Roll Eyes] [/rant]

I try to be responsible with my bass, even though I can't drive yet. I've got a buddy though, that just dosn't get it. He had about $700 worth of stuff. Bumped it everywhere, always woke my dad up (which is a hard sleeper, and works nights), and finally got his stuff stolen. We put my stuff in, and I still ahve to get on him about bumping on the street. Some people just don't get it.

As for myself, I'm going to try my hardest to listen to bass responsibly, as well as endorse it to my buddys. Yeah it's my stuff, and I'm free to enjoy it, but when it wakes you up, suddenly it's not cool anymore. Funny how that works.

I agree with Tempe.

In my younger days I thought it was "cool" to play my bass loud in residential areas, so everybody's head pops in their windows to see who it was.

Now, I have matured and realized that people don't complain because they are a**holes, but because it is really irritating, rude, uncalled for, and some people have things going on in their household that requires the normal amount of peace and quite, which has now been invaded because of the loud bass.

Ever had a sick infant who won't eat or sleep and consistantly cries nonstop. Than, after days of this, you finally get them into the good deep sleep that they have needed (in the middle of the day) only to have them woken up 5 minutes later because of some damn teen cranking their POS system which is nothing but pure distortion because they are "cool". Doesn't not make me a happy camper atleast.

So, now I try to turn it down in most resid. areas, expecially near children on walks (most kids in a stroller are sleeping, which was the purpose behind the walk), in yards, etc., also elderly people who are outside (can't imagine what my stereo would sound like thru a hearing aid, ouch).

My only complaint: If your gonna give me a ticket and harrass me for my music, ticket the guy on the damn Harley also who's exhaust is twice as loud as my stereo!

i most def believe it is bull**** that most motorcycles come out of the factory around 130-139 db's i think, i cant remember but im pretty sure if your bike is 140db's you dont pass inspection. the biggest bull**** is that those are never called up for noise complaints. yet you hear them more often and they are allowed to have silencers in the pipe theycan open and close. i have a neighbor who rides by almost daily who i can hear from up the street b4 i can even see him. but you cant even hear my radio from that distance. i actually will tend to keep my radio on and windows down during times like right after school in residential areas to almost warn any kids outside in their yards to stay out of the road and i have found it actually works. though after 5 i roll the windows up to keep the bass to myself

I seriously doubt that bass will wake you up from a sleep.

I know people that have trouble waking up to an alarm, and thats going off high pitched next to your head...

If bass wakes you up, you've probably got problems.... either that, or theres a dB drag the next morning, and the extreme class people are taking a midnight stroll.

And, to tell you the truth... I think that blistering high's would annoy me much more than bass. I think about throwing a brick at the local treble machines that go by my house crankin' tunes with horrible language, yea... I listen to those songs.. but with my windows up.

And another thing, how about these fart-can exhausts? Now THATS annoying.

The thing is EVERYONE'S DIFFERENT!!! Because of this, you do not know what person B or person C likes, dislikes, how that person's body is, etc... Just because bass doesn't wake you up does not mean that it will not wake up someone else.

During the past six weeks, I often went to bed around 6 or 7 so that I could get up super early, do homework, and make it to school by 6am. Did I go to bed at a rediculously early time? Yes. But does that mattter? Should someone have the right to infringe on my right to quiet? No. My green-card buddies next door were blasting their bass around the time I wanted to sleep. I was unable to fall asleap because of the offending noise. We're talking about people bumping for extended periods of time and not simple drive bys.

Maybe I'm an a****le about the whole situation, but I'm sick of listening to other people's stereos. If I can turn mine down in the appropriate areas, then everyone else should. Noise ordinance laws are there for a reason. And it wasn't the old grandpas cruzin to the polka music that brought upon these laws; it was a bunch of immature kids that don't know how to respect others. These comments are in no way directed towards anyone specific. It is just a cold-hard fact.

Due to their profound hearing losses, my girlfiend and her daughter cannot hear conventional alarm clocks. My girlfiend uses a clock with a flashing light while her daughter uses a clock that has something much like a Bass Shaker. I guess she has problems... [Roll Eyes]

Apparently you didn't read my post very closely. I was referring to an infant being woke up from the bass, even though it is just as annoying to me also. And yes, children can be woken up by nearly anything, even the sound of a simple floor creak, and I don't think that means there is anything wrong with them. And yes, a child/infant screaming will wake you up even if the bass didn't. Either way, it makes me EXTREMELY upset.

I also agree with the mulitple statements posted previously that everyone is different, and just cause you can sleep through it doesn't mean everyone can. I personally am a fairly light sleeper, so I wake up easier to sounds than some may. Heck, I can wake my g/f up simply by turning my alarm clock on (not having it go off, but turning it on, the switch makes a "click" sound). Now, if that can wake her up, imagine what 140dbs driving by with house windows open would do. And she is pregnant, ya don't wanna mess with her right now.

I agree completly with what Tempe and others have said. Like, I think someone said above, I used to be immature and thought it was cool to blast my stuff in neighborhoods and at stoplights. Now I realize how annoying it is to others and I don't.

One of my friends used to give me crap about it. I finally got it through his head and he doesn't anymore.

I live in a neighbor hood that has a million teenagers who think it's cool to blast at all times of the day and night. Problem is in my city you can play it as loud as you want between 6:00am and 10:00pm. [Mad] [Roll Eyes] And ther isn't a single thing the cops can/will do about it.
