after reading all these posts about having stereos jacked id thought i would share mine. worst f--kin day of my life i gotta say. it was a nice a$$ day out i just got back from lunch during school it was a great day out really didnt want to go back but had to. i left my truck in the school parkin lot at 12:30 came back out after 5th ended around 1:25. walked up to my truck with my buddy he goes your rear window is smashed in just some small as window didnt think nething of it at the time just thought someone didnt like me and smashed my window so i was like ****ty oh well. both hopped in my truck went to turn on the stereo and no bass!?? i was like SHIAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!! i look at mt friend and say"thats why my window was busted" i went to the back opened it up and THEY WE GONE!! my babies were gone. i was so pissed. what they did was(they were nice enough to break the smallest window)unlocked the door folded the seat down and pulled the box and subs out. dumbasses left the amp though which is good for me. I mean come on we have security in the parking lots and it was the middle of the day in the school parking lot i cant get over that. I learned a very valuable lesson from this. Dont go around town showing off your system!! you may think your being cool(which i thought i was) blastin your stereo but there are people watchin ya if you do, waiting for that time they can take what ya got. i was pretty much known for my system around town and thats not a good thing.so for all you peeps that go around bumpin the $hit outta your system dont do it, or do it in a controlled manner. im not trying to be an a$$ here im just sharing my expierence with others so you could take this as a little warning or however you want. thanks for readin this i know it was long

i know everyone around here that hits people up for there systems.if mine ever comes up missing I will know right where to go. try parking in a garage or if you have a hatch back, back up all the way to the wall so when you open the hatch it will hit the wall and they cant get in it, they would have to crawl through the vehicle and it takes more time and is noisy. but watch me be talking and go out to my car in a minute and not here anything.lol

pathfinder, as much as what happened to you sucks, you have clearly learned a very good lesson. i am always keep my system a secret to most people that i know. lucky for me, it's in a truck so there's no open trunk to allow people to see the sub/amps.
i'm very sorry that you had to learn the hard way.

Depends on where you live and if people know you well enough not to steal from you. Me and my friends NEVER ever had problems...even showed off systems at our high schools car show (2 years ago).

just use your judgement. i only have one Boston ten, but most people dont even know im into car audio. i live in an apt complex for college and there are plenty of stupid people here. they drive around the complex with the system mommy and daddy bought them cranked at full distortion. it doesnt take much for someone to figure out who has something worth braking into a car for and who prolly doesnt

If they can steal your subs, you need a bigger box To prevent them from taking it out of the box use hex head screws, most theives don't carry a socket set with them. Be careful where you turn it up and last but not least....STEALTH INSTALL.

out of curiousity.. what subs did you have that got stolen? oh and what amp did they leave behind and where did you have it located? out of view?
another stupid thing you see is people putting those "steal-me" stickers on their cars. what better way to tell a thief exactly what you have by putting a big kicker or mtx sticker on your windows.

well a good advice for everyone is dont just put your box and amp in thier with normal screws. its to easy for someone to get a cordless screw driver break a window and just lift it out and run. ONE THING TO ADVICE WITH EVERYONE INSTALING STEREO. 1. DONT USE PHILIPS SCREWS! use allen head screws or sometype of security screws to hold everything down. amp/subs/procesors what ever. also mount the subwoofer box DOWN simple angle iron works great and screw it to some type of metal brace in your trunk. usualy the rear deck is best so you dont hit any wires or fuel lines. and like the same use alen screws or something that is not normally used. just think alls you need to steal a stereo is a cordless screw driver and a simple pair of wire or chain cuters for those thick wires. just smash the window with the screw driver or pop the trunk lock and in 10 seconds i could be running away with everything you got. also i recomend bolting down the back of the head unit. most h/u's have a place to bolt it down in the rear. keeping it from coming about acouple inches from the dash. now i never have stolen stereos but know acouple people that used to until they got busted. just think when instaling if you can put it in quick it takes less than 1/4 of the time to remove. but if it takes you longer to instal, THEN IT WOULD TAKE THEM LONGER TO REMOVE and lets face it if it takes longer than 30 seconds to get one thing outta the car ITS NOT WORTH IT AND PANIC SETS IN and perinoa get the beter of them and lets face it they say "F**K it im outta here" and dont try it again knowing yours isnt a easy smash and grab. isnt that tiny hour or 2 tops more instaling it worth it? and about maybe 20 bucks more with the special screws or if you realy wanna be tricky and mess with them use diferent size alen screws or diferent type screws. i neve use typical screws and luckly never had anyone attept to jack my car yet(knock on wood) but ive also got a paging car alarm and a 9M for a back up security device.LOL just think that little amount of aditional time is worth the investment. hell ive spent 800 bucks for 1 amp and sub. and another 300 for the head unit. and the hassle of fighting with the insurance company...... to much aditional time when it could be solved by another hour or two of aditional instal time. sorry for stresing so much. but if your serious about car audio...... you will do it!

reading this thread I just had an idea...has anyone with multiple subs ever tried chaining the subs together from the inside of the box? Sounds like it could work well if you are serious about security.

No... I must admit that I've NEVER considered chaining the subs together. If they have the time to unscrew the subs, they've got the balls to concentrate on the WHOLE BOX. My experience is pretty much the same as everyone else, go inside happy, come back out........... stop dead in your tracks. Windows broken, head unit's gone. Look in the trunk, empty, wires cut just sitting there lookin' all lonely. Start running through list of possible suspects....(It usually is someone you know) just sit there in shock, big hole in dash just looking at you seeming to say the word "idiot". You tell yourself "I'm either gonna get a good alarm next time or just stop "F"ing with it alltogether.......But here you are.

Yup... before you do anything to your baby's sound system install an alarm, and a good one. Then set the shock sensor for a good punch to the glass, not a bird sh*t dropping. I also installed a second mini piezo siren in the interior... real ear piercing. When my alarm goes off I know it's the real deal not some stupid false alarm. I laugh all the time when I drive by cars and the 3" exhaust on my F-150 with a dynomax ultra-flo muffler sets their alarms off... what a joke.
It's called STEALTH people. Everything in my truck is invisible when you look inside. I learned the hard way when I was 16 (mid 80's) and I installed a "killer" stereo (at the time) and some high power 6x9's in my parent's car that got ripped off. That was the last time I did anything stupid like bolt an EQ under the dash.
Bolt your stuff down, if your sub has 6 or 8 screws holding it down use a different one for each screw, etc.
Bottom line, think like a thief.
I always turn my stereo down after driving with windows open a few blocks from where I'm going to park as well. No sense in giving yourself away right?
And please people, keep the SONY, MTX, etc stickers off the glass... that's asking for trouble.
Now I'm not sure about those "type-R" stickers.... must add HP or something. Posts: 150 | From: W. Vancouver, BC, Canada | Registered: Aug 2002

I use to be scared that someone might want to steal my baby (9515), so i got myself an alarm and that still wasn't enough so i limo tinted the back of my truck and *presto* you can't tell that i have a sub box anymore. If you can spare $100 or so then i suggest getting the tint.

I personally have never had a stereo stolen from me, but I have also never had a box that hasn't weighed over 400 lbs, 24 cubic ft in 12 sheets of MDF and 12 10s wouldn't be too fun to carry across a parking lot. In my explorer just to add another problem to a thiefs day, I removed my rear door shocks, so its dead weight....if you could bust my windows to unlock the gate, you'd have to hold it up while you tried to figure out which screw head was which....I use L brackets to secure my box. Each screw in the bracket has a diffrent head....hex square phllips and flat. But like everyone else has said, think like a thief and take precautions
