I have only been going to comps for 1 year, (so veterans don't yell at me), but it is when u play ur system at a certain note for a like a second or 2. I guess it is good, u wont use all ur voltage up just running a sign sweep.
Drink 2 cans of Dr. Pepper really fast... you'll know burping!
And on a side note, playing a test tone for the mic.
And make sure that Dr. Pepper is room temperature before drinking. Also before swallowing shake your head to make the carbon active, this will create 2 times more power. (like a 4000 watt amp pushing 2 15" RF HX2 subs) HAHA sorry had to elabrate.
Car Audio burping is a form of Art. Everyone has their own way of burping their systems. The way I compete is:
Before I get in the lanes check voltage, run the motor at 2 grand while waiting in line for any extra charge, get the CD ready before the car ahead leaves the staging area, set my CD player 2 tracks below actual vehical freq. Get setup with the meter, wait 2 seconds after initail start to ensure the mike is hot, then I do 4 seperate 3 second burps, after 4th burp I turn down the volume then shut the system down and wait for time to run out.
That is how I run my competition setup each time. I was hitting 143.3-143.8db in MECA CS1, not bad to me i think, especially doing that with the wrong designed box and 2 $60 12" subs that no one heard of at the time. Hope you know what burping is now or at least have a better understanding of it.
It just breaks down to playing 35-80hz (single tone) at high volume for 1-5 seconds. ( you need to know your stereo's edge of destruction limit)

i could probably burp the whole 30 seconds but my electrical system would not take it. i just have an underpowered 9515 the sub hardle moves with the power i give it. if you download a tone generator, i would just goto google and search for tone generator i have one called NCH, its very simple and easy to use, it lets you make sweaps and single sine waves and other waves, personnaly i made a few sweaps then 30 seconds of each tone from 15hz to 80hz i know im not going to use most of them but i like it for testing.

Basically what you do is get you a test tone cd like bass mekanic or any other one that has single tones on it. Find you tone, pause it, crank everything that you want to crank, then just unpause it for a spit second. You don't have to do a whole sencond burp, you can do fragments of a second. That's all i do and im hitting over 150.

Yes and no. I've seen guys that only have to burp their systems a split second and be satisfied, but some systems won't read good numbers until a few seconds into their run. A burp is easier on electrical systems, but some do it mostly because of the size of their systems. Think about it: An extreme competitor is running sometimes 8 amps on a single sub. Those 8 amps are usually 1000-2000 watts each or more. Plus those amps are running up to 18 volts, adding to the output voltage going into that sub. Some subs, no matter how high power they are, are delicate to a degree. A cerwin-vega stroker is an AWESOME sub,but it has a lightweight cone that will rip apart. In other words...competitors don't want to blow their subs apart in the middle of a run! Ask any extreme class veteran if subs will come apart. I've seen many open their doors after a run and pick up pieces from the floorboard. Now I'm sure that you don't have anything planned like this(extreme class)but there is always a future!I started off by working on street class cars. Now I'm building an extreme car.
