I've worked in home and car audio for about 12 years now, and these are some of the funniest things I've ever seen.
1. About two years ago, I sold a boy an RF Punch He2 15" woofer and a ported enclosure made by Virtual Technologies. The box and the sub are a perfect match, so he should've been set for a slamming ride. He comes back to the shop about three days later and wants to know what size amp wire he needs. He's running a Pyramid "1800 watt" amplifier. I told him he needed atleast 4 guage, but not to expect to much from that amp. He said ok and left without buying any wire.
About a week later he came back because his amp had died. I looked into his truck and noticed that he had 2 guage power wire, and 10 guage ground wire. The insulation had completelly melted off the ground wire. We took his amp out and I removed the cover to find that the terminal had burnt the solder on the circuit board and had created several ugly looking black spots. I told him that ground wire had to be atleast the same size as power wire. He left without doing anything else. I learned a few months ago that he burnt his truck up because he tried running some type of bussbar under the car directly from his battery to his amp.
