A friend of mine and I had heard the cliche "hot enough to fry eggs" one to many times, so we decided to try it.
The victim : An innocent rockford Punch 100x2 series amp.. The most stable one I have ever had.
The setup : Two DVC 10 inch subwoofers, coils in parralel (for 2 ohm per sub) both subs in parralel.
The testing procedure : Bass Mekanink's Quad Maximus disc, track 14 (the killer bass test disc) at full volume with a Kenwood 4v deck, gains set all the way down (input sensitivity under 4v peak on the amp )
To avoid killing the speakers, they were in a sealed cabinet, and given approximately 1 minute off for every 4 minutes on..
The other "victim" : A single, "Egglands Best Extra Large White Egg.
The verdict : The amplifier, after one hour of playing, was NOT capable of frying the egg.. Made a big darn mess though... So, just so you'all know, it didn't work :-)

I think my old Hifonics Ulysses series VIII could have done it. I had four of them stacked two by two, enclosed. Well, my fans shut down one day...and the amps never did protect, but I smoked 80 amp fuses like crazy (this on 2x25, 1x360W high current amps). I burnt my wrist when I bumped them. Hurt for days..... very bad ass amps.......wish I still had them

SSA- I agree! Those old Ulysses were some bad ass babies! Shadow, not sure if pam would have helped with the heat transfer, but, would have made getting bits of egg out of the heatsink a tad easier...

I had a deuce and a quarter that NEVER shut down on me. I drove from St. Louis to Miami straight through once, amplifier in rack, cooling fan busted (I didnt know), running 1 ohm stereo 1ohm mono, in the middle of summer. I would almost think that that one could have fried something on it... it just kept on pounding though... damn fine amplifier....

I had a couple in 93 that I wish that I had never sold. The only amps that I regretted selling later. My old Autotek 9050 would get real hot as well.
Try to find one of the first RF Series One amps. I remember reading a review of the amp where the reviewer said that he was just getting over the waffle iron look from touching the heat sink.

My old LA Sound Malibu 120 was a stoudt little bugger. Played it for 5 hours straight, Lancaster - Pittsburgh in the snow (normally = 3.5 hours). The Kenwood 10s just kept on rubbing the small of my back and I made it through .
Sometimes its the ones you never think to look at twice that come back in your memory and really shine.

I had a Kenwood amp, the kind that had an internal fan, but the fan never worked and that thing would got so hot that if I brushed my elbow on it I would get a second degree burn right away. That thing never went into thermal protection, worked fine in 2 cars over 4 years, and still works. I just have it lying around, I wish I could find a use for it in my current car!

I leaned on a class A 10.0 in a store once and burned a half dozen red lines across my hand. Come to think of it I should have sued, or at least threatened to. I might have got a free amp or two out of the deal
