I had a guy come to me this week with a Monte Carlo(2000) with wires hanging out of a hole that used to house the stereo and a new stereo to be installed.
He labled all the wires because he needed it NOW and didn't want any unnessary waiting.
One wire was marked "Remote" and I asked if he had an amp somewhere, his reply was, "That is the wire that turned on the deck when he turned the key" I noticed it wasn't a factory wire but a wire spliced into another. He said he used a light meter and that was the Ignition wire.
I wired it up,installed it and checked to see that it worked, everything seemed fine.
Wellllll, he comes back an hour later and says his deck dosen't work.I turn the key and sure enough nothing happens. He then tells me that it shut off when he turned the a/c off.
So I hit the A/C button and what do you know...On comes the deck.
Well you get the rest,I made him take it all apart since it was HIS mistake. He had called a stereo shop and they told him his ignition wire was Yellow. Helllooo, how many yellow wires are in the dash.
