if you hook a 100 watt amp up to a highpower sub ,like mtx 8000 that there is no way it would distort,or you would ever blow it,
... well it would sound like a fat guy who blew a gasket but that amp couldnt produce enough power to heatup the coil and blow it.

I know how it is, I put up with jackasses like that everyday. I just roll my eyes at them then finally tell them come back another time when your serious about buying something.

dropbottom- I get far more irritated with the customers who come in to listen to gear, then tell me "I can get it for $$$ on Ebay" GRRRRRRR!!!! These people don't understand basic economics. OF COURSE its cheaper online, those merchants don't have to pay for overhead! Support your local shops (if they are honest and work to earn your business) If you don't, you won't have a place to check out the goods before buying.

well there was the shop i really liked, but then i wanted him to build me a box and when i told him i wanted it tuned to about 35-36hz he looked at me funny...said that was all wrong and it should be tuned to about 50hz
i said thx and left

*quick edit, just realized if it wasn't for him i wouldn't have started building my own boxes, so i guess i owe him a lot

Big deal. You have the be one of the biggest assholes. Bashing your uncle like that.

I'm sure he knows a wealth of information you don't know sh*t about. Big deal, he was prolly joking around with you man... and you took it seriously. Quit being a **** and respect your elders.

My story is not quite as funny as all those, but here goes.
My mates have a habit of introducing me at the end of a party after all their pals go on about when they hit the biggest numbers at db drag events here in South Africa, I just sit there smiling, I really don't talk very much as I dont know most of the guys.
Its funny how the loudest guys (you know what I mean) become very quit. [Big Grin]
I too love to go into small shops and ask them silly questions just to embarrass them, sorry shop owners it just so funny what some people don't know. [Big Grin]

thanks Krisa... and FOR THE FRIGGIN RECORD.. it was NOT MY uncle, you lil inbreeder.. it was a friend of mine. and this uncle of his, is the same kind of guy as "Cliff Clavin from CHEERS".. the MR I know NOTHING ABOUT EVERYTHING type of guy. I have never claimed to "know it all". So like was said before... know the whole story before you start criticizing someone else..

OH.. and even more important... READ THE POST BEFORE YOU REPLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But wait.. you must know everything.. I bet your car is soooo loud that you routinely have to replace your windshield and all other windows cause you keep shattering them every time you play your loud stereo.( but you haven't competed)

point of the matter is this.. I was giving an example of a moron i know who claimed to knwo everything. the questions I asked him, were not to belittle him, they were to find out what he did, how he did it, and what he played to get that particular score.. but then again,... you must have known that since you are the god of knowledge.. get over it, deal with it.. move along

I shop at Norton's Car Audio

That is one of the best stores ever and the guys there are awesome! They dont lie to sell products, like CC or BB, and they tell you honestly what is the best for the money. Jay, the head guy, told me if I got 2 Studio 10s that I would probably hit around 135 or 136. I was like WHOA> My last system was like 100, if that! So i was excited about it. First really loud system I have had. Wnat it louder though! Anyways. I hit 136 clean and it sounds so clear. They dont charge to help me wire the subs into a 1 ohm load (I always doubt my work for some reason, even though its right) and they double checked my amp wiring and doubled my warranty from 1 to 2 years. Awesome group of guys that really know what they are doin.

around here, we have one shop for 40 miles. if you havent checked the loudest car i've seen in MI is like 155 dB (that I know of). and well, they always put the fuse inline near the amp, not the battery. they will run cable over sharp edges that cut the wire in a day. the salesmen there are also ignorant, as to the digital designs situation, everybody around here thinks they are "mexican built swap-meet specials" I hate where I live. but it does make it easy to show up everybody. still depressing though... I dont own a shop or work at one, but at school last year this kid ask me what kind of subs he should get... I said go with Kicker, JL.. He asked about audiobahn and I told him what I thought... Then he bought them and about 2 months later said that he is proably hitting a 160db ... I told him there is no way in hell u are hit a 160 with 2 audiobahn 10's in a sealed box in a Jetta... With a 500 watt amp...(What the kid did was add the sensitiveity of each sub which was @ 80 db... (80 X 2=160) LOL... Then I saw him this year and asked how where his bahn's doing... He said he blew them... And was lookin for a Kicker L5 or L7's.. I told the kid... People just dont listen [Roll Eyes] [Roll Eyes] [Big Grin]

I just went to work a little while ago(mcdonalds in my case) and had a friendly talk with one of my coworkers(stereo know it all). WE got talkin about his system and he told me how if he "Put two of his pioneer premeir amps together not a single sub could handle it" even the MTX RFL he said, which he also told me is the worlds loudest sub. I told him that i was going to be ordering new amps soon and he said how much power do they put out? I said two of them strapped will do 2500 into a 2ohm load. (ED nine.1's hopefully) He said bullsh$t thats gotta be into like 6 channels. well anyway, the guys an idiot so i told him what i had and again he called BS on me, whatever right. we get outside and i burped it for him inside the car and he shut up right away. SO i guess 14 year olds arent totally stupid about car audio.(people that are older always think they know more). He made a few more comments but i wasn't payin attention, and i dont have time to list them all. I was just happy i made his eyes go like this [Eek!] .

well thats my story. kinda boring but i had to blow off some steam.

I like to go into shops and ask questions like: "whats the slew rate on this amp" or "whats the input impedence" or "whats the FS on this sub"....just for laughs.

Speaker wire: $10

6.5" components: $300

Blank stares on employees faces: priceless

THX, if that is how you get some kicks, i think you should probably try and get a girlfriend. its not very nice to do to people, do you fully understand amps and subs? car stereo shops are a business, not a tech school. the businesses that make the most money are the deck and 2 install shops. most high end shops have to wait for the big $10k system that happens every 3 months to make their quota, while deck and 2 just gets 3-500 per sell.

but seriously man, you need help if thats all you do. especially if its coming from someone who only knows about this stuff, because they are reading it off a post that someone like me posted.
