Yep manufacture defect. Kinda be funny to do that to a sub you buy from like Best Buy or Circuit City and then go and return it for money back..hehe

I have actually seen subs returned that had the cone totally ripped away from the basket and the customer brought the sub in with one piece in one hand and the other in the other hand and they were returned on the BB 4yr.

Well..we did get the sub replaced...the reason we got to keep it though is because it has a bent basket. Pretty good trophy, I thought!

Didnt' Orion give a lifetime warranty on some of they're subs? Non conditional lifetime warranty???? I thought they some kind of deal like that years ago.

Audio, yes and they still do. I have a pair of Orion XTR DVC 10's. That by having the authorized dealer install them they have a lifetime warranty. The XTR's have had this warranty for a long time, but a year or so ago they canceled the warranty for 6 months then brought it back again. Maybe the sales weren't as high without that lifetime warranty.

Lottsawatts and I had a very similar experience about 2mnths ago. Only it was a RF punch 15. That combined with 3 mmats on 12 good old punchs, and Mike with his trusty 10hz WAY TOO LOUD solution to testing his subs came to the same conclusion.
PS does anyone have a technical explination of why this happens? All we could think of is thatthe VC fried then all the other 11 subs ziged while that one zaged and whamo.

Well, to simply guess at the reason that it happens, I would have to say the coil and former were thrown out of the magnetic gap so forcefully that it bent cone out, and then destroyed the coil assembly with continued power input.. or, possibly, the former heat up, but not enough to melt it through the dustcap (which happens often, as you all know :-) ) and the heat softened the cone (which is Poly on the IDQ, right, and Paper pulp on the punchs (i think)) and the motor assembly (former and coil) managed to blow out the cone.. I've personally never done it, but I have had 1" of coil stick out through the neato plastic dustcap's on the newer rockford DVC's (makes an interesting look... Manufacturers should do that :-)

and I thought I did good by blowing up my battery, permanently staining my hood paint in places, burning 2 thumb sized holes in my shorts, and acid burns on my fingers (although I'm pretty much amune to acid, we found that out in HS chemistry class....nearly got expelled too had it been another person being tested on).
See, screwed-up more back then than I am now .

The bad part about this is you guys are all trying to do this intentionally...this happened at World Finals (USAC) of all places...AND right before we had to get into the SPL lanes. Oh well..we made it anyway.
