The other day i went up there to get a amp sent off to get it fixed and i had the four year warrenty on it. The amp was a 360a2 and i got it from them when it first came out. But i sold it and my friend mess it up so i had to get it sent off to be fixed so they called me and told me it was in and i went and got it. So I got home and test the amp out and it was still not working and i looked at the back of the amp and the screws had not been touched. I guess they just forget to send it off. But i was funny too me at the time but not to my friend.

I'm curious how Best Buy only hires Electrical engineers. At least all of them around this area anyways. Cause if you ask a question I always get, "I should know I'm an electrical engineer"
I always say you must not be any good cause your ass is working at Best Buy!!!!

OK guys here the deal, i work at a best buy sevice center, so before you say stuff at least know what goes on, Rockford will not let us open up there amps or headunits for that matter. so every rockford amp that is blown, is tested at our benches and if it is bad out it goes to rockford to be repaired, (please note the warrenty void if broken sticker on the bottom of the amps)that goes for us to, they are one of the few companies that don't want anyone but there tech's fixing there product, if its not bad, back it goes to the store. I can not tell you how many amps work perfectly fine when i test them at least 2 a day. any way what did the store tech tell you was wrong with your amp? he should know, it was on the tag when it was sent back from service. just wondering?
And on the only hiring Electical Engineer thing, chances are you are talking to store personal, they are normally just a high school kid, not any thing special. But when you get to the people that work at a service center (completely seperate from a store) They are normally well schooled, it not very easy to find problems, in home amps, TV and ect. that why most people send thing out for sevice, it is tough...
And lastly on best buy only selling junk.
best buy is trying to sell car audio to the normal person (the person off the street that probly doesn't even know that there is a specailty store for only car audio) not the competitor that you find here. And most of the stuff is not JUNK pioneer, rockford, clarion and cerwin-vega are pretty darn good brands, true it not the stuff you would find many winning spl systems, but it still great stuff for your average customer. Most shops need to carry an afordable brand, and BestBuy does that very well,

I install for Best Buy, I used to install for Circuit City...and I have to say, I haven't had too much faith in those service centers.

Many times, I've re-installed stuff that came back from service, to find that it had never been fixed at all.

This one guy, his car deck's tuner stopped working, so we sent it off for him. It came back, I reinstalled it, the tuner worked fine. Twenty minutes later the guy's back...now it won't take any CDs.

Also, I do agree with what JP said...lots of perfectly good equipment goes out to service because of bad installation or the owner not knowing how to use it. However, if a piece of equipment tests good, the employee in the retail store should let the customer know this.

And J_P, just because I say I haven't had a lot of faith in the service centers...don't think I'm knocking you or anything. Honestly, I don't know much about how they work.

How many service centers are there? Are you a Best Buy employee, or is it a separate company? What's the closest service center to Boston? Do you repair stuff that Best Buy doesn't sell, and can we get our employee discount on repairs?

Yeah I have only dealt with the salespeople and that's why I said that. They almost ALL claim to be EE's, at least around here anyway. I agree that repairing electronic equipment is not an easy task and should be left to a qualified professional.
But come on the salesman saying he's an EE and he's working at Best Buy????? Yeah right!

there is around 15 service centers, around the country, yes we are part of best buy, but we are located in are own building, completely seperate from a retail store, i think but i am not sure on this there might be a service center in boston? We fix or try to fix any product that can be bought at any store, But alot of the time parts and manuels are not available for some products this includes something that best buy sells, and on getting a discount on repair cost. i really don't know, but you do get a nice discount on a psp plan, that would take care of almost any repair cost,
Also just want to add that all service centers are not equal, same with store and installers, all in all most techs do a great job repairing product, noticed i said most techs.
