Went to this car competition and this guy powered his amp by his cigerette lighter in the car and he thought he was the S*it it was funny. He plugged into the lighter and played it and it hit like 140.

Sounds like a lot of the "kids" running around here with their first attempted install. Still, 140 with JUNK and a cigarette lighter plug in, is not too bad. I know a few guys here that barely break 140 with a lot better setup, and better gear. hehe

HAHA, I used to be one of those "kids" with entry level equipment and wires galore. I wish i had pictures of my 1st car and system. Heres what the car was and had in it.
1984 Chevy Citation II (like new with only 16,000 miles on it, my grandma owned it)
Pioneer DEH-445 that had a custom wood console, pretty kewl for what i had in mind.
Pioneer 3.5" 2 ways in the dash
Pioneer 4x10" 2ways in the rear deck
Jensen 120x1 amp, 75x2 @4ohms
2 Rockford Fosgate 12" Series 1 subs in a bandpass
and a Power Acoustiks 300 watt amp.
It was nice sounding but it was only capable of a 127.6dB.
From there all the equiment ive owned has gotten better.

we had a guy come to our local unsanctioned comp in Fremont and after the comp some people wanted to see what they hit this guy pulls up and has and older regal windows down sunroof open i say close your windows and sunroof, he says I can't. I'm like what do we do now? so the guy running the show turns down the sensitivity on th AC meter and he hits a 119 and think it was just his factory 4x10's so we told him now you have something to build on!!!!!!!

I graduated with a guy last year that had one of those "wires everywhere" systems. He has a early 90's Ford Escort "GT Pony" with a jensen HU, jensen 5.25 coax's, jensen 6x9's, a "600" watt jensen amp and 2 jensen 10's in a "universal" bandpass box. His power wire consisted of a 14 awg wire that he just twisted into one of the blocks in his fuse box... so he had to take out the wire every time he shut his car off. One time his amp caught fire when his mom was driving the car (it's actually hers, he just kinda always drives it) and she had to throw he coffee on it. Another time he fried his amp (don't know the story on that one) and it took out his subs too. And the worst part is he keeps getting jensen crap. I mean, i understand the first time because the amp was under warranty. but the second time... with what it cost him to replace the jensen amp and subs, he could have got a decent amp and saved up for a decent sub (or some wiring and fuses actually made to power an amp.)
