This is a good one...I was at a local shop and this guy pulls up and comes in and says his subs does not sound right....We went out and he opened his trunk...He has a Urban amp and he had 2 12" Urban subs mounted on sheet of peg board...I was doing everything not to laugh...then he said do you think it would sound better If I took duc tape and taped up the holes? I then lost it!!

The funniest install I've ever seen was all done by the owner of an audio shop. He sells Fusion, RF, MTX, and other random stuff. He did a RF Van.... yellow with red logos. He walled off both sides of the van with 12 ported HX2 15s, had an amp rack in the back. It was all 3/4 MDF spray painted black, tubular bracing going from wall to wall in 3 or 4 spots. I don't know which amps he was running but it was only about 4 of them hooked together. 1 yellow top battery, 5 farad cap. I got to talkin to him a bit and he said that it sucked cuz his voltage dropped so fast. I asked him what alternator he was running, he said "just the stock 80 amp." I told him the best thing to do was upgrade that to a 200 amp and add another yellow top. He said "replacing the altnernator is a waste of money boy, I'm gonna get a few more caps and it'll be fine." Well this was at an outlaw SPL comp he was hosting at his shop. He burped it, and hit 151 on a WHITLEE mic. I think his voltage was around 8V. I just laughed my ass off. Big man that owns a shop barely breaks 150 on a sorry mic with 12 15s. I hit 158.9 with 1 10 sealed(outlaw) that day.

At 15 here are my "accomplishments" 12's in 5-gallon buckets(on bedroom floor) bacause my truck isn't finished. Sony 20X2 amp running at 2ohm per channel. Alpine CDA-7892 and a Boss REV-455 bridged at 2ohm running said 12's. Powered off a 7 amp power inverter. Here's the problem i had. Bass hits, amp draws too many amps, shuts off alpine, shuts off amp, turns on alpine, turns amp, repeat. Bring deisel battery and battery charger in from garage. Shake pans on stove half-way across house on VOL. 15(out of 35)

The funniest install that I have ever seen was one that was done in a wheelchair. This guy had what seemed like a ten inch in a wedged box attaced to the back of his chair . He had everything attached to a car battery underneath his chair along with the amp. The headunit was attached to his armrest. He was strolling around the city bumpin his beat. It actually didnt sound too bad if you ask me.

of course i have seen people who insist that "dude you don't have to ground an amp you idiot, it's optional" and "i used big power wire to get the most power to my amp" but use speaker wire for ground... hell, even i was new one time, i ran a pair of blown 10s off the back channels of my stock headunit... it was awesome considering the box had black plastic stapled to it to make it look "better"...
the best of all is the guy who comes into the shop looking for "power" wire for his 2000w amp... he says MAN is this amp amazing, it's a whole 2000w... and he got a good deal on it too, only 20 bucks... a dollar per hundred watts is a good rule, right...
so the manager asks what kind of amp do you have... he says "cuspid"... "power acoustik?" he asks ... "no," the kid says, "cuspid."... so they go out to have a look, sure enough, it's a cuspid amp. manager looks at the fuse... 5 amps...
so he goes in and finds some of the smallest spade terminals in the shop... the smallest of them all works. so the guy asks "do you have any power wire for that?" the manager busts out laughing as he leads him to the roll of stinger speaker wire
so the next day as he was amazed with the power of the 2000 cuspid watts, he comes in and buys an actual amp.
i still hold that sony measures their equipment in "w"s and not in watts because it is an entirely different measure of power, hence their pentagon shaped "1200w" amps.

This guy I know has two extremely old cervin towers (house speakers) with 12" drivers in them. The are so old that the surrounds were paper, got brittle over time and fell apart.
Now get ready, this man is a genius, he cuts two circles out of an old pair of track pants and Scotch tapes the fabric to the cones in place of the paper surround that was there. Watching those subs go with that track pant surround is one of the funniest things I have even seen.

ok, the only funny one that I've seen was when my friend bought two 12" Audiobahns from Circuit City the first week that they started selling them and every comes to me for box building advice because I am apparently God around where we live...so I gave him my adice.... and this is what I told him.. "Use 3/4" MDF, use a single port between the two subs.." he replies, "but that'll be ugly, how about some neons inside the box because of the chrome baskets?" I go "well.....you can put some thick plexiglass on the top and a neon in each side"
the next day rolls around and i talk to him, "so how's it sound?" he says "awesome, sounds great, here i'll show you" this was the dumbest and ugliest box i've ever seen... he used 1/4" flake board of some sort and 1/4" plexi that was TOO SMALL to cover the top of the box, the port was crooked and the inner walls were just ELmer's glued in, and there was NO BOTTOM to the box at all!!!, two 6" neons....I just about died.
I listened to it...it couldn't have even hit 90db..I'm not kidding...there was no air pressure because of the 1/2" gap that went around EVERY crack and the fact that the box had to bottom to it! My suggestion (trying not to burst his bubble and snap him out of his dream)..was to use tape and chalking to seal it up...LOL
the next day if he was lucky he'd hit 110db!
Sorry, I'm still laughing my ass off while typing this crap....

Reading trougth all this has almost made me scared too park at parking lots. What if one of these morons park their cars close too mine and cougths fire?
Ok i migth also be able too add a few too the list.
A friend of mine are very found of bass one day i helped him install a Crunch fatboy 15" in a premade 58L sealed box. We tested in my car, hooked up too the bridged rear channels of my RF Punch 400x4 wich provides atleast 200 WRMS in that configuration. The sub does really a good job it plays clean, deep and loud, clearly a good match from my own dual RFP 1810`s in a ported box of the same size. Well he takes with him the box and tells me that he will return later when he has installed it in his car. He cames back a few days later. He has a 84 Mazda 929, Sub box are thrown intoo the trunk, the amp, a huge beast branded Diplomat are just laying in the foot area of the passengerside and juiced with a 8 gauge wire connected directly too the battery without a fuse. He invites me in too listen too his system and i almost loses it when i discoveres that all thats installed besides the sub are a pair of dual cone 4" speakers in stock dash location powered by his deck. it sounded like a subwoofer mated with a telephone speaker.
I did also one day walk over too my neigthbour too watch the progress of his install. He had the music on and was playing some music with rather deep bass. when i walks behind the car i notices too my amusement that one of his rear ligths are blinking too the rythm of the bass beats, even if they are not turned on. He had grounded his amp too one of the screws holding the ligths too the chassie, but since this point had no good ground the current went trougth the filamnets in the bulbs and was grounded too the separate ground wires for the ligths
One last story. I wisited a SQ contest near by, a few years ago, and arriwed just in time too withness that one of the competitiors was told by the judges too leave the area. This was done because of safety reasons. He had used plastic strips too attach his power cable too the cars exhaust system all along from the engine compartment too a hole trougth the floor of his trunk.

Seen alot of funny installs, but the one that sticks out was sort of install related.
I put my sub box away for the winter in my heated garage. The next spring I put everything back into the truck and went about tuning it for a local comp that day.
I had tuned it with the system at various levels and was all ready for my run. The kid put the mic on the windshield, gave me the thumbs up sign and I squeared off with my competitor.
Cool, I pulled off the win without cranking it up. Why take a chance on blowing something right?
My next opponent was going to be tough. We battled against each other for a few years and had been pretty even in scores.
I borrow a buddies amp and stick it in for more power, crank the volume and get ready to burp it.
Lights count down, heart beating, let go of the pause button and BLAM!!! Feathers and stuff everywhere. I jumped out of the truck cause it scared the hell out of me and I didnt know what was going on.
Meanwhile the port is pumping out more feathers, dust and sticks and everyone is looking at this cloud billowing out of my Toyota.
When we figured out what happened, it was a hell of a good laugh. The rep was pretty cool about me having another go in the lanes, but this time I wore glasses and hearing protection and a dust mask.
I did place 2nd in class though.
Damn birds can go build thier nest elsewhere.

I think this is my favorite of them all. I guess partly because it doesn't involve people being stupid. Plus, just that image of feathers flying.... Awesome

here's one from me.. I used to do sound setups at small coffee shops and things like that, and for a while I used a pyramid "240 watt" pro series amp, with a pyramid power supply on my main speakers... on the power supply the amp actually sounded ok, and put out a fair bit of power. I was pretty surprised, it worked for about 6 months before I gave that gig up to do more car audio.

Mine looks pretty funny right now, ever since the XXX and amps were stolen, i have had a Pyramid "240" watt amp hooked up in my trunk going to my 6x9's.
Well, picture a huge 6 foot wide trunk, tons of room, with a battery sitting uner the rear deck, with 1/0 gauge cable running to it.
From the battery, goes 4 gauge cable, to a tiny, purple amp, screwed to a peice of HDP in the middle of this HUGE trunk.

I dont know why I am remembering this now..
In college a friends brother-in-law raved about his flea market find of the day. He couldn't believe how good a deal he got...
Went to his house the next day and found he installed a small pyramid amp and a pair of HUGE PA horns on his rear deck. The big gray ones you see in the navy / marines. He mounted the horns so they were blasting over the rear head-rests. I cringed.
Scarry thing was he did a pretty good job on his wires, and the install was pretty clean and fused correctly.

Whoever made that site is a retard. It could have been a funny site, but they just ruined it.
Talking trash about people who have bare MDF enclosures at comps. Who the f*ck takes time to cover comp boxes with carpet? You aren't competing for how pretty it is.
And the magic three upgrade being useless. Yeah...I guess its okay to run 0 gauge to your amp, yet its ok for the SAME amount of current to travel back to the battery through a 10 gauge wire under the hood.
And...you run 0 gauge for a 120 amp draw from your amp, but that 120 amps coming from the alt to the battery is different
It sounds like its coming from someone who doesn't know much about audio, but he's been hanging around audio forums for a few months and is trying to be funny.

One of my buddies bought a '73 Malibu to fix up. We were taking the thing apart and we find one of the worst installs I've ever seen. One of the previous owners cut a hole in the back deck and put a 12 inch sub in there. They then seeled all the holes with calking and duct tape, and used the entire trunk as a box. Hahahahaha.
