i used to do all kinds of strange stuff @ first...lol
but once i decided to build my own isobaric enclosure with 2 different 12s a old crunch pro & a kicker c12. the crunch was "meaner" looking so i put it inverted into my home built box mostly scraps, it was around .75cuft seale& i mean really sealed i used 2 tubes of silicone, we ran it off a pg ms275 this sounded great 100% better than either had in separate boxes! We put this in our 1984 z28 & boomed it till the hu burned up, my buddy took it to our local shop & all they could do was poke fun @ my crappy box, i felt dumb hearing some of them say how bad that must sound! I asked them what they had & one of them said a jl12w6 off a soundstream ref300 in a 400$ box...lol
I asked what it did? he says "a certified 123db" i said wow, i wonder how loud ours is? He agreed to meter it after the head unit install, after a few minutes he calls me back with a smile, "you ready" i said "yep" he gave me a test cd, as soon as it first hit he went "damn" not bad"120db" i noticed it was not low so i put a bass patrol cd in there? and asked him to meter it again, all of a sudden he has a astonished look on his face, "125db?" "wtf?" he was pissed my crappy box beat him...lol
He offered me a job too...lol [Big Grin]

heres a classic

a guy comes into the local shop, right...
says "i just bought a 1600w amp, i need some power wire"... so the shop owner says sure, what kind of amp is this 1600w beast... he says cuspid...
shop owner says ... "acoustic? power acoustic?"... no, just cuspid..
so they go out to the car to look... damn... sure enough, it says cuspid, 1600w... right on the heatsink

the amp is about 6" long... about square... so he says wtf, 1600 watts... picks it up and throws it across the parking lot to the other guy working at the shop...

1600 watts! he yells...

a look at the power wire terminal comes up as a problem... its too small for 10 awg crimp connectors [Big Grin]

he's like uhh dude i dont know, maybe this will work (gets some scrap speaker wire from inside) ... here we go, he says

"badass, dude, so you have some wire for me?"

"yeah, *speaker* wire... an amp kit would cost more than your amp did"...

after that, they go inside and check out the JL 1000/1 surfboard and compare [Big Grin]

had to be there, it was great... my memphis 250d was bigger than his 1600w cuspid.

i hate the companies that rate at max power.

3000 watts , 4 channels, BRIDGEABLE!!!!, 2 OHM STABLE...

not many amps from cuspid, pyramid, pyle, etc that are mono. none are 1 ohm stable to my knowledge and they are all peak power.

and many a people have bought amps like that around here...icant help but laugh

yeah, we have all seen some funny stuff...but ya wanna know whats even funnier, im gonna bet someone who has replied to this message has done something like one of these stories when they were a newb!!! Heck, my first box ever had 1 audiovox 12", 1 Pyle 10", and 2 k-mart 8s, and was made of 1/2 particle board, lol!!! So we have all been there, and thats what makes it all the more hilarious to see someone else do it. Ghetto installs, hmmm, lemme think how many of those i have seen and had to cure...well thing is even the "pros" screw up once in a while, kid brought his truck to a friend of mine and I to check it out, says his amp wont work. So we find out where Best Buy, CC ,or ABC, cant remember where he had it installed, had mounted the ground terminal. Turns out it was under the kick plate for the door and the connection was rusted to the NINES! Next install...Kid calls me up and asks me why his amp blew, i go over there and im lookin at it. He has the classic 4ga power, 8ga ground routine goin on, and the ground wire is like 3.5 feet long too. Not only that, the connection was TERRIBLE, and the wire was that 6 stranded or whatever house cable. I have more, but im tired of typing, so im out, lol!!! PEACE

a funny story that i can remember is at a local competition, i told a kid that if you add stickers to your windows, you add db. the more you have the louder you get. He asked why, i told him that the weight of the stickers makes your windows more rigid. After his run, he left the competition. an hour he comes back, his side and back windows are covered in stickers, every square inch of them. Everyone was like, wtf. He goes through the lane, to my amazement, he went up .2 db. i could only laugh, he came by and thanked me on the tip.

New guy here, just thought I'd start off by telling a funny story of my own. I am in the Army, and was stationed in Hawaii from 95-97. During this time I worked part time at a stereo shop called Mobile Car Audio. It was a pretty much high end shop, anyway.....we had a guy come in asking about an amp and sub install, which he said we wanted WAY TOO MUCH for, so he left. Two days later he came back and told us that he had a friend install it for next to nothing. Two days pass and I an driving to MCA and I see a Honda Civic on fire on the side of the road(the same guy) so being a nice guy, I stopped.....the cause of this problem....no fuse on the power wire and no gromet coming through the fire wall. I guess our install would have been cheap compared to the price of the car.

O sh*t. thats all we need is another guy not using a fuse blowing up cars. good thing it didnt work out when he was outta the car and it kept burning with no one around. that could have blown up realy easily also hurting the car parked next to him. explain that to the insurance company!!!!! and that little fuse is just so cheap when you think of the cost to repair your car. because you might not have a problem with it. i didnt use one on my 66impala but i heard of someone car catching fire like that and threw in a cheap little 40amp spade auto fuse. my old amps where so small the fus never blew. but now ive gone big and using a circuit breaker and wafer fuse
