I remember another good moment. I was in 7th grade, the last day of school me and some friends were going to put on a dance for the rest of the school. So we all brought our gear to school. I had 2 RF series 1 10s and 2 RF RF series 10s, basicly 4 10s exactly the same except the dustcaps. One friend had 2 RF RF series 15s. He had them in a big ported box that was made out of 1/4" chipboard and had a 4" port that was like 30+ inches long, it had 3-4 elbows in it. He hadn't a clue what he was doing. I had my 4 10s in good slot ported boxes that were tuned around 45 Hz, to be loud, and constructed well. Before we put on the dance we hooked all of our gear up to hear it. He played his 2 15s and thought he was big $hit. Then I hooked up 2 of my 10s to the same amp and holy $hit, they were probably over 10 db louder! His box would flex and rattle and it sounded like ass. I thought it was funny. I think he learned a little respect for me that day, as he has been asking for my help ever since.

OK I have seen & heard of plenty of funny installs but when I was in highschool I saw the funniest working systems ever.

my friend Damion had a piece of crap like 74 tercel or something. He had a big @$$ Alpine amp with fans & it wieghed like 30lbs it was fat but I have no idea how much power. he didn't have a HU or subs. We went to the Flea Market with $80 to get something. We found 2 18" "Rockstars" he bought them even though I told him he was trippin. The next morning he pulled up in front of my house to pic me up for school. I heard him coming for like 2 minutes, he left the system pounding & come inside all my windows were shaking & my sister was yelling at him about how retarded he was. We went out to find the rear view mirror broke off & that is when I saw the 4 gauge & RCA running over the back seat & though a 6x9 hole in the rear deck. he didn't have an HU so he used a walkman that had RCA outs that he stole from his dad. He had a switch on the remote wire & his brother built him a baffal board thing behind his back seat. it pounded hard & he left it that way for like 3 months until he got a HU for his bday

I dunno if anyone else has ever seen this happen but if so they will agree that it is funny as hell.
I was at a show this past summer and I had gotten there a little early to register and hang out for a while. The comp. organizers were busy setting all the crap up, and when they got the meter all ready to roll, one of the guys says to the other, "Why don't we test it out on your truck?"
So the guy, rarin' to go, runs and gets his beat down Toyota. He pulls into the lane and opens his hood, spends about twenty minutes to do what I don't think was really anything, and hops in and sets the meter and crap up. He's running one of them crappy little MTX Thunderform things that wasn't even made for his truck, off of who knows what kind of amp. Anyways...he hit's a 130 something...but that's not the funny thing.
So apparently the guys determine the mic is all set and the guy with the truck gets ready to pull away like normal. Everyone standing around watching thought something seemed wrong though.
Well the guy revs up his POS truck and takes off, BEFORE REALIZING THAT THE MIC IS STILL IN THE TRUCK!! The meter was yarded off the table at a decent clip and slams into the ground. It was pulled a good 20 or 30 yards before the guy realizes it. I couldn't believe it, one of the friggin guys running the show!! Ha ha...good stuff.
No meters were harmed...the show went on. AudioControl...Good stuff!!

I had a kid come in and buy a Infinity Perfect 10" for his ext cab chevy, said he was building the box but would bring it back he wanted me to install his amp, few days later he brings it back i pull it in the bay to put the amp in and the face plate under the seat looks really nice, so i go abou thooking up amp, when it came time to hook the sub up to the amp i folded the rear seat up to find the wires, thats when i fell out , his "box" was like a 1 gallon minnow bucket slid over the back of the sub.

ok this happened about a month ago. i was tryin to sell my rf 360.2 to a friend to power his two rf punch twelve's since his two jensens amp's got stolen he said they were putting out like 1100 watts so he didn't think the rf amp would do the job. so he had 1 four channel jensen amp and 1 two channel jensen amp so i asked how he had them hooked up and he told me he took channel one from the four channel amp to one speaker and channel 2 from the four channel amp to the second speaker then he took channel 3 and hooked it up to channel 1 of the two channel and channel four to the channel 2 of the 2 channel amp. i laughed my @ss off and told him he was lucky he didn't start a fire

I don't know how many times I have seen crap. I have seen alot of people run home stereos in there car.
About 2 years ago I ran into a guy at a competition in my home town of Kirksville Mo.
He said his system was going to kill mine.
He said his system was designed with a bigger area in mind. So I looked he had bose home stereo in his car. It was his parents, and he said that Bose is the best. He said it and kept reminding me and everyone of this.
That was until he hit only a 129.4.
Ya he lost bad and blow his parents speakers.

hey dbrookie i got one kind like that. don't you hate that when some dude with big subs and thats it talks tough and you know your going wail on him in a comp but you just kinda feel bad hahaha fun ****.
anyways i was sitting in class talking to this guy and he told me that he had 2 18" rockford's in his car. a 88 cavalier. funny enough but thats not the best part. i went out to look at it so befor he turmed it on he had to pop his hood and put his 18g speaker wire power cable with no fuse on his batt. he had kinda of a loop type deal that he just slid onto that post. now by this time i was just a screaming but it gets better. so i get in the car and he say he has 2 sparkomatic 1000w amps i luaghed and looking in the back seat yes i said the back seat not the trunk. the amp was about the size of the number pad on your keyboard. i had seen the subs befor in a blazer they had been in a nice tuned ported box but unfortunatly that box would nto fit in his car so he cut off the top of the box wher the port was and drilled a peice of 1/2 plywood onto it but he didn't cut the box very good and it was all jagged i would see into some of the crack than he showed me his ports i don't know how he cut these things but it was funny as hell they weren't ports at all they were more like 4 inch air leaks anyways he started to play this on his factory deck i told him sumthing was going to go wrong very soon he said nuthin had yet. so i just laughed al the way to 4th period. after school i got in my car and started to pound out my system he stoped me and asked me if i was going to the event at the local store after school i told him yes he said to go early and he would kick me in the lane i luaghed and told him i was on my way. so i got there they had everything set up i informed my buddy at the shop of the confrontaion and he said they could help me out and give us one run off the books so just to piss him off i unhooked one of my subs by the way i have boston acoustics compietitors sq subs. he got ther and hit like a 118 i luaghed hit a 132 with one subs and said **** sumthing is wrong hook up the other one and hit a 142.8 i turned and asked him if he wanted my help for building a new box he said no he could handle it himself i just went about my day kinda feeling bad about making him look so stupid but whatever he though he was the ****

OK My turn:
One of my friends that has been an installer for over 15 years told me the funniest thing I have ever heard. A guy comes to the store with the intentions of getting a new box built because he thought it would be louder than what he had... the installer asked to hear his system, (he had 1 Kicker Comp 12 on an alpine amp), so he turns it up and IT IS LOUD!!! So he checks out the box to see why the guy thinks he needs a new box and low and behold it's mounted in a big orange Gott cooler, with the wire ran through the water spout. Talk about a sealed enclosure!
About a week later a guy comes in because his new amp don't sound right, the installer begins to check it out, and immediately after opening the trunk he notices a ground wire coming from the amp wrapped around a pair of scissors and jammed into the trunk floor!!
And I'm sure many of you have seen subs mounted in sub boxes... no really... mounted in the exact box that they came in!!!

Ok my turn. Formerly a shop worker myself we had two stores. One of our installers at the other location was the only "MECP Certified" installer at the company. the rest of us were so to speak born into the scene. well he goes to install a radio in a truck but its an older model with no continuous hot wire for the radio's mem. wire. So he politely installs a new wire from the fuse box( wire wrapped around the blade of the fuse and put back in factory fuse block)and ran to the radio. Wire was drapped over the brake pedal as well(Smart). Well to make a long story short, guy gets in truck drives down road.....brakes..wire breaks(no fuse of course)..weilds itself to the brake pedal...sniff sniff.....FIRE. 5000 in damages. Needless to say he was fired and had to relinquish his tool box to pay for damages. Now thats why i dont trust a single MECP installer.

I had one guy come in with one of those water bottles for coolers, and he cut the end out of one end and mounted the sub there and used the spout for a port. Funny thing is, that it sounded good.
