When a man is upset, he dosen't think at what he's doing... I've hooked up my good old' Alpine 3545 to 3 speakers, just to play a 51 Hz tone, at that frequency, the woofers' impedance was just at 3.9 Ohms. So i wend to a local soundoff show and made a couple of DB' runs.
However, 2 things went bad: I've built a box so bit that my amps were covered entierely, so gou guess how much heat he was trying to dissipate. But the worse, after the event, we went playing music, Remember the the amp is 4 ohms stable when bridged, and with 3 6 ohms subs in parallel, a close to 2 ohm load was way too low.
Results: after 3 minutes of pounding, a funny smell came out of the amp. (Picture this, half of my VW's inside was in white smoke)
Diagnostic: 14 transistors for the switching power supply and 12 for the amplifier section has to be changed. (28 transistors)
Lesson i've learned that day: Do what i tell and not what i do, and for the love of god, let your amps breathe.
Sometimes, you just realise that you do stupid things for nothing..
