Well this is all about a friend of mine...let's go ahead and call him Rich. Ok...Rich is running 2 RF amps, a power 800a2, and a punch 800a2. The power is running his Boston 3-way set. Somehow something gets screwed up and he pops one of the caps in one of the passive x-over for the 3 ways. So I took the x-over off the left channel of the amp so he could turn it in for warranty. And I left the speaker leads coming off the amp.
So I says to him...don't play your stereo until you get home...and when you do tape up the leads...so you don't create a dead short.
So he calls me back the next day, and says his stereo REALLY sounds messed up...crackling coming from the right side....and I couldn't figure out what was going on. After about 10 minutes...I think...I better check the left speaker lead. Lo and behold...he just taped the positive and negative together. He's like...it worked for about 3 minutes..and then went haywire. And I was like, hey retard, you just made a dead short! Now the amp will instantly pop any speaker hooked up to the speaker leads, like there's 12 volts coming out of it or something. Really weird....last time I ask him to fix something on his own stereo!

Makes me kinda wonder 'bout them new Punch amps....
My Punch 200.2's have been driven into dead shorts before and melted speaker wire. They are still alive in my car too. Did make a hissing sound when the other channel still had a speaker on it though. Connect everything fine, and it worked perfectly.
I'll never forget when one of my wires got kinked and shorted. The insulation melted off and started to smoke. It was crazy.
gonna keep my Punch amps for a long time,
Mike Miguez
