Can someone please help me out? I have a 1998 Ford Explorer. I recently installed a Vallet 552T Keyless entry/Remote start. I have gotten everything to work except the remote start. It works when the key is in the ignition but not when the key is taken out. I had a second key made. I installed the DEI 555F to bypass the PATS but I'm unable to get the 555F to program correctly. I have followed the instructions but still unable to get it to learn. Here are the trouble shooting steps that I've done. First made sure the wiring was correct. It was. It had a constant 12 volt and the Neg was working when the Remote Start was energized. I made sure that the neg worked by connecting a tester to the neg wire off the remote system and the other end to a positive wire going to the ignition. Then I activated the remote start and it lit up as soon as it was activated. That tells me that it was working. Also I was able to feel and hear the click on the module.
I followed the directions of Insert Key turn on until THEFT light goes out. Turn off, insert second key and turn on until THEFT lights goes out. Withen 10 seconds put the sensor in the key hole and activate the remote start. It will never learn it though.
Can someone help?

I just looked up programming for a 98 and up, it tells you to turn the ign to the RUN position for 1 sec, 2nd key to RUN no longer than 5 seconds after the first key within 10 seconds of removing the 2nd key, remote start the vehicle. if you want to see the manual, go thru DEI's install essentials website.

if its manual transmission you will have to jumper wires instead of starting it with the remote starter but this problem is definatley related to your transponder bypass

Is the second key programmed to the Explorer? I mean, does it start the vehicle? If the second key was not programmed to the Explorer, the programming of the VATS bypass will not work. The FORDs need two keys to enter programming of a new key. Put in the first key, turn on until "THEFT" light goes out. Put in 2nd key, turn on until "THEFT" goes out. Now remote start. It should work.

I have been on this site for a while, I moved and forgot my login in, anyway , I am a dei dealer and that module is a pain to program, I suggest using using a 555uw, you just put the spare key in the box, hide it very well and use the the solid blue(from the sattalite relay, the one with heavy ga.wire) or use the blue, white stripe come from the brain itself to tap into - on the module, there is no programing and it is alot faster, only you give up the key. Not to mention it is a less expensive module, but it is the most dependable. I use it my own car.As another note, DEI has a different interface module setup now, I can give you more info, but i would just use the 555uw. hope this helps

if using a U, hit up howards for a spare key, program it with the RS. This way it stays uncut. no risk with they uncut key in the box

or you could just use a module by fortin, firstech, or any of the other companies out there. No loss of a key, much easier to use, very reliable not to lose programming on fords.
