Should I mount it up on the a-pilar close to the windshield to detur thieves and let them know i have a security system, or should i leave it in the dash facing the drivers seat so no-one really knows i have an alarm and not draw attention?
Which is the better option???

I have always been a fan of highly visable LEDS. Whats even better if you can put them in locations that are very visable yet out of the ordinary (ie Door panels). The idea is to make the average lowlife think "is it really worth messing with this car" and move onto easier prey.

I agree most people wont go after a car that has an alarm system and putting the LED in a visible place but unusual will make them think twice about messing with your car unless they really know what they are doing.

make sure it looks pro because if is just kinda hanging somewhere they know it's not a good alarm.
i am not a fan of highly visible leds(seen more than 15' away). reason being ur drawing att if someone punks are driving around a parking lot and urs is flashing bling bling i have something worth looking at. but you want them to notice the led when they walk up to ur car if the car itself caught there att...

that makes sense... any ideas on dimming a high vis led? that is one thing that i was kinda worried about with my alarm i like them to know i have an alarm but i don't like the fact that you can see it from far away. i was thinking of just tinting my windows.

I agree. also, if you live somewhere that gets lots of snow, realize that if its on top of the dash or in the a-pillar, it's really going to make the snow on the windshield glow, making it more visible in the winter. COLD DOES NOT KEEP THIEVES AWAY!
