So I just bought a 1997 Eagle Talon and am working on installing an SX18/ RE components (starting with 187 sq. ft. of RAAMmat) but I will absolutely not install that sub before I get an alarm done!!
And yet I know almost nothing about what to look for regarding alarms...so I need some help. The car is a manual so remote start is of no use to me, and this seems like a really good alarm - http://cgi.ebay.com/VIPER-850XV-CAR-ALARM_W0QQitemZ5857928631QQcategoryZ94833QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem What do you guys think of it? It's an 850xv....pretty high up in Viper's lineup. However, I wasn't able to find it on directed.com so maybe it must be an older model...not a bad thing right? I will definitely be installing a backup battery strictly for the alarm system to further complicate the process of breaking into my ride, but is there anything I'm missing here? Also...I know that $100 is not even close to what it's gonna sell for so this isn't a "Well this is $120, that should fit the bill..." kinda deal. I want the car to be very hard to break into successfully.
Are there any other features I should look for? P.S. I was going to post this in "Auto Security" but judging by the 6 or 7 threads that are in there it doesn't see much traffic so please don't move it there lol. Obviously I need opinions on this particular alarm system (suggestions on other alarms are extremely welcome and wanted too) before the auction ends, thanks!

IMO an alarm is an alarm. I've owned many brands and installed many brands over the years and none have failed. Install is the most important aspect. Find the features you want then concentrate on proper installation.

Well due to a few reasons I opt not to install it myself (one being that I have no idea how to do it and my dad is so busy with work it'd take forever for him to help me install it from start-to-finish) but have it installed professionally.
Do you think Car Toys (an authorized Viper dealer) would be a good choice to have the install done? My only other options are a bunch of shops I've never heard of so I dont really know that they'd be better than Car Toys.
Also, I was trying to find the answer on directed's site but never came across it...if I bought the Viper alarm online (maybe on ebay) and then had it installed by a Viper dealer would I still get the Directed warranty?

I know a lot of shops will not install alarms that you didn't buy from them.
