In an attempt to reconcile any of my technical disability, I went ahead and decided to install DEI's 5 led scanning module. Unless I am mistaken, the negative lead needs to be hooked into the 'ground when armed' (200mA) output and the hot side needs a constant 12. Bearing this in mind, my manual suggests that the ORANGE wire from the harness is the 'ground when armed' output and I used a constant 12 from the steering column.

Here's what happened... The leds scanned quite fast when IGN was off but alarm was disabled. When alarm was engaged, the leds scanned MUCH more slowly. Any ideas?? I suspected that perhaps a relay needs to be diode isolated or some such willy nilly...

either than or the starter disable is playing games with my setup. One more q... I have Touchan's strobes on a 12/30 relay (3 strobes) powered by the siren output. Will I be able to tie another strobe into this sircuit without messing things up?? If not, what's the best way to wire them?? BTW... this Revere™ strobe is VERY tight! I am blinded after a bench test... gf too!

Andrew.

I don't know what could be wrong with your leds.. well, I have the same LED and I used the orange wire too, but for the other wire, I spliced into the alarm's 12 constant right behind the fuse. seems to work with no problems for me. I duno what the difference would be in taking it from the steering columnn tho. I'm no electrical engineer =/

That's what I thought... damn. It took me forever to get it into the shop too! Oh well... looks like it may be going to DEI heaven unless perhaps J. Durbin has a better explanation??

heh...

As we discussed elsewhere, try using diode isolation - you should generally do so anytime you have multiple devices sharing a ground when armed output.

Neex,
How did you hookup your strobe to your siren? Doesn't the siren output pulsate? What kind of relay did you use and where can I get one?

I didn't do the work for the strobes myself because I wasn't comfortable messing around in the rear lights assy. As far as I can tell, with ESP series Vipers, the siren output can be set up to be either pulsed (for horn honk output) or constant (for siren output). All that was done was that a 12v/30A relay (Bosch or B. Porterfield) was used on the brown wire (siren out) to control the ballast for the strobes. I think 3 relays were used because of the addition of the 2 strobes in the brakelight housing.
These could also be set on the green wire from the brain harness to control a relay -- this would output when the dual shock reports a full response to zone 4. To answer your question, sirens are usually on a constant rather than pulsed (as far as I know anyway).

btw...This would be (unless I am mistaken):
86 to the siren... 87 to fused 12V+.... 85 to ground.... 30 to the ballast for the strobes...

Andrew.

you can get these relays almost anywhere for a few bucks...
