on and alarm with the door lock and unlock feature and 2 extra ouputs, is that really 2 4 ouputs?? reason im asking is i need one for a wheelchair lift that will do lift up, lift down, lift stow, and door close. i dont need door lock and unlock, they stay locked 99% of the time, so im not going to worry about a remote unlock. can i use the door lock, unlock, and then 2 aux outputs for the 4 functions??? thanks, btw, what do all of you think of compustar alarms??

You need to learn more about your system. As for using the door lock outputs for other tasks, it can be done, but remember the door lock/unlock outputs only operate when you arm and disarm the system. Also the door lock outputs are usually a short pulse, making it extremely difficuly to use them for a lift and such. You would need to design some latching relays...It would be a major problem. As for the other 2 outputs you mention, you need to find out if they are pulsed, or constant while transmitting. If they are constant while transmitting, you have 2 channels to work with. Also many alarms are capable of more channels, just have to add one or more receivers. With most units you can press bottons together to create extra channels.
For example if you had a 3 button remote, you may have up to 7 channels.
These button combinations
1
2
3
1+2
1+3
2+3
1+2+3
You would need to add an extra receiver, if the manufacturer makes one. This is another reason to deal with a well know name brand alarm. If you need parts or service, it makes life a lot easier. Which brings me to your last question.
I have never heard of Compustar alarms.
Another thing to remember is Alarm manufacturers will make alarms under several names.
For example
DEI- Viper, Python, Hornet, etc..

Omega - Excalibur, K-9, Freedom, Crimguard, etc...
Hope this helps.

thats for the info. i love it when i get someone that really knows what they are talking about and will give a thorough explaination. thanks. as for the compustar, ive heard a lot of good things about them, but the main reason i liked them was their LCD screen feature on the remote. i just found out that alpine makes one also with the lcd and it has door lock unlock, and an additional 4 channels. also with the capability of adding an expansion module. i think ill go with that if i decide to spend that $$ on one right now. thanks for the info. btw, what are your opinions on alpine alarms? thanks.

Thanks for the kind words,
I have never personally used the Alpine systems. They seem good. I would shop around and form my own opinions if I were you. The biggest problem with opinions and Auto security is, you may hear someone trash another brand, when the problem may have been or most likely was related to the install. If it's one thing I have learned from installing auto security for a number of years, it's the installation thats most important. Most systems are good. Stay away from "self contained" alarms though. 99% of the time, when a customer calls about a malfunction, it's installation related.
Feel free to ask if you have anymore questions.
