the title says it all. How hard would it be to install this specific alarm? I have never installed one before and i am interested in getting one. So anyone with experience please help me out. Also does it come with instructions?

if you dont know what wires do what in your vehicle, i would advise against it. i thought it was tough as heck and i have done about 5 alarms and remote starts. either hire someone to do it or have someone knoweledgeable help you.

exactly how hard can it be? I am fairly competent in electronics and as long as it comes with instructions on what to hook to what i should be able to do it.
HCCA how good are the instruction? Are they clear?

not as clear as crimestopper alarms are, those are almost dummy proof. not even as clear as the cheapo bulldog remote starts at walmart for 40 bucks. those 2 brands have a wiring description for most vehicles included with the alarm, so it made it fullproof almost. as for the 790xv, it explains what they should hook up to, but if you dont have a wiring diagram of your vehicle, your gonna be lost. you will definately need a dmm, possibly a test light, wiring diagram of your vehicle, plenty of zip strips, colored wire, electrical tape, wire caps, PATIENCE, and plenty of time. consider this job atleast a day project for you.

HCCAFan it does come with an installation guide right? not just the user manual that only tells you how to program the alarm? also what kind of warranty if any would i get if i bought one from Ceed19? Are concerned that something might fry and then you would be out the money? what are the chances that i would have a problem with the unit? I mean how good are DEI alarms, that i dont need to worry about not having a warranty

Aggie, The 790XV has a wiring schematic that is identical to the 550ESP. You can d/l the install manual from DEI's website.
If you don't aleady have your vehicle's wiring diagram you can get that at: www.the12volt.com
As far as relays and the like, the alarm comes with the necessary relays for install as is. If you are going to add options such as window roll up, turbo timers, etc. you will need to purchase additional relays. If you have progressive locks you will need to install a few diodes and/or resistors so you will need to do some soldering. As with any tedious(that's how I would sum up the install- not difficult, just tedious) project, preparation is the key but it's definitely doable. Good Luck.

On keyless entry systems, when you flash the unlock via the transmitter, only the driver's door opens. Flashing the unlock a second time unlocks the remaining doors(a safety feature I'm told . . . my cousin used to joke- Do you think I can't get in your car cause the door is locked?!)
This particular wiring scheme would require diodes in line as there are two seperate outputs, one for the drivers side and one for the remaining doors. If you wired them inline without a diode you would send voltage back to the opposite switch that you pulsed.
Again, www.the12volt.com covers most basic to intermediate alarm install questions. If you have questions that are more advanced you probably know of a better resource to pull from already.

Like cORnHoLiO said, the 790 is the same exact thing as a 550esp...same relay pack and same brain, except you only get one transmitter, and the antenna is different. If someone needs help with one, drop me an e-mail @ z22cavalier@aol.com, ive installed 3 of them already, and countless amounts of 550's.

I have never used the 12volt wiring diagram. We use TechSoft by DEI. It is an awsome program. Makes life much easier. And yes the 790 or any or the responder alarms by DEI are exactly the same as a viper 550 (553v).

i know about the lack of warranty, but i have faith in DEI and the amount of money i saved, i can buy another one if it should ever fail which i highly doubt...

I thought about installing the 790 myself, but finally decided against it and shelled out the bucks for the pro install. You are correct in assuming that you can just buy another one with the money you saved. As a matter of fact, in my case, you could buy 2 more for what I paid.
The 2 main reasons I decided against self install were the warranty (which in my case is lifetime parts and labor) and the realization that I could possibly fry my truck. The 790 is a complicated alarm and I would recommend the pro install for the average consumer.

However, if you go to a local DEI dealer and have them check your installation to make to make sure it's up to par and sign off on it, then you can send in the card and then you have warranty. Most dealers will do this if you've ever done any business with them or have bought the alarm through them.
At least that's how I get all my stuff under warranty install myself and they sign and send in card Posts: 8 | From: WI | Registered: Jan 2003
