I'm making an ecnlsoure made of 3/4" mdf. This enclosure is for three 10" drivers. I will be using one common chamber rather than seperate chambers. I will use some bracing, but I want to really make sure it is sealed air tight. I was wondering what I can use inside of the box to make sure it will be sealed air tight and at the same time will help strenghten the box. Any suggestions?

Fiberglass the hell out of it. Glass the inside mainly. It will give you a great seal and also had strength. Make sure to add some polyfil, as fiberglass boxes tend to sound hollow. Another thing you can also do is to polyurthane the outside of the box. In other words, "paint it". Most wood materials are porus and can let minute air threw. Not enought that you will ever fell or notice it but it is there. Hope this answer your questions. Some of the other more experienced people on the forum might help out better. Ask BIG NUTZ, Dukk or dB Don are some very knowledgeable guys that could be more specific.

well fiber glass from what I hear cost alot and is kind of hard to find. I have checked around and cannot find it, I am going to autozone and see if they have any. Painting the box is a good idea though. Put braces in the corners of you box if using 1 layer of wood and calk or glue the hell of it.

Fiberglass is easy has hell to find. Where did you look. I can find fiberglass materials at Wal-Mart. I usually use materials from http://www.selectproducts.com . They have everything you can think of.

there right, fiberglass resin is easy as hell to find. most major hardware and departments stores with an automotive section will have it. it will be with the bondo crap usually. it gets expensive when you building a box of something large, entirely out of fiberglass. this is due to having to make a large number of layers to make the box sturdy and strong as all hell. but you could pick up some resin to coat the inside of you box for >$20. when you start using the fiberglass cloth, then you start adding cost. but even still, you could fiberglass the entire insode of your box with a single layer, for nearly dirt cheap. mind you, this stuff is not easy to work with, unless you do it alot and are experienced.

Thanks for the replies. Ok, I'm trying to fit the enclosure in between the shock towers of the tires in the trunk. I only have 34 inches in width to work with. I would have only 1" seperation from each sub and 1" from each edge, that's a total of 4" inches to account for. I'm using three 10" drivers, and that's a total of 30"s. 34" total width. 1" seperation in between subs is small but that's all I have to work with. I can't add dividers because I would have to increase the width. I'm considering fiberglassing the inside, but are there any other options I should consider? Also if I do fiberglass the inside of the box, do you think the 1" seperation in between subs will be strong enough to hold(with the fiberglass, it probably wouln't be strong enough w/o the fiberglass support)?

Also, What exactly do I need to buy?

Accord94, I've put dividers and braces between drivers that were touching. It's ok if you screw into the divider or brace. Just be sure to pre-drill the holes. If there is .75" between the mounting holes "you can do it!" - The Waterboy This would make yuor baffle much stronger. Best of luck.

Contact a spray bedliner company in your area. The size of your box would usually cost about $40 - $50. The bed liner would give a great seal and provide strength. Good Luck.

just as stated somewhere above..you have room to put the dividers if you have room to make the subs ring to ring. the hole cutout should only be 9.125" anyway on most standard punched steel frames. so you have the room. that would provide the bracing you need. and more glue surface as well..you can buy the fiberglass at your local AutoZone though pricey..at $24.95 per gallon..but comes with the hardener needed...just don't poor it in a foam cup to mix it!!! unless you want foam decoration on which ever surface you happen to lay it first!!
Best Regards, Steve

As mentioned before, fiberglass is easy to find. I believe you have Lowes out there, I know there is Home Depot. They carry fiberglass as well, but it is usually a few bucks more than Autozone. I know home depot has some paper buckets ( about a qt or so each) for luke 50-70 cents.. these work great! and cheap too.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
