This is what i use your gonna laugh but it works VERY good. Wire snipper for cutting insulation, I make like 4 or 5 snips all the way around then yank it off. Then i use a hammer to crimp the gold terminals and let me tell you it CRIMPS them allright it makes the 4 gauge flat. HAMMERS RULE

I use whatever to strip the casing off, and I use a vice grip to crimp. snap the vice grip shut, then release it and tighten it a little, and then shut it again. Just keep doin that until it's nice and tight.

wow i will never let you guys near my vehicle

use the right tools for the job. if you dont have the tools, find someone who does or buy them yourself.

a tool like this is what you need.
this is a "hammer style" battery cable crimper. it will cleanly and securly crimp wire/terminals as small as 10 gauge all the way up to 4/0 cable.
you raise the spring loaded mallet, lay the terminal with wire underneith it across the V groove, then hammer on the top mallet to crimp the wire/terminal together.
i have one myself, and it makes crimps 100 times stonger than a vise or hammer.
this particular one costs $40 from parts express, but i found mine (almost identical to this one) for $25 at a local battery shop.

Go screwless. They are reusable and will save you money in the long run. Also Ive used solder to hold wire in the ends. Have not had one break loose yet.

I use a coax crimp tool then soldier the wire to the terminal with a propane torch (very low flame) then heat shrink tube over the end, followed by a few layer of good electical tape

Just me though

Then I use a blowtorch on low flame and solder the wire.

you can get most of your tools at Parts Express. I would only use this place for tools though.

You can get a crimper like that from Delcity for $17.19 I think. Their web site is www.delcity.net.

It's under Tools and Testers / Crimping and Heating / Crimping / and it's the first item. They have every kind of crimping tool known to man (and woman, even). I just use vice-grip pliers or a table vice. Though on the table vice I bent the handle trying to crimp a 2-gauge. It was a cheap pos, though.

I always add solder to my mechanical crimp... Then I wrap it up with good electrical tape (3m Super 88 is perfect) and finish it off with a piece of shrink tube. Then I torture test the connection by hooking to terminal on something and trying to pull it out. Since I added solder to the mix, I've never been able to pull one out.

5lb hammer and a blunt punch/cold chisel right down the seam w/a couple of hard hits on top of a vice. Works like a charm and still looks acceptable, doesnt flatten out

maaannnn.. forget all that hammer, vices, and 40 dollar 0 GA crimpers,, i got a pair of $9.99 cheapo bolt cutters and it crimped my 2/0 ring terminal no prob, don't crimp too hard or you'll cut it but the right amt of pressure, you could put the ring terminal over a trailer hitch and tow your momma with 2/0 wire. Solder is key. I never used to solder and one time i pulled my connection out. Everytime I solder now it stays in super tight.

Solder works very well..
Depends on the type of connector..
Solder and then crimp also works... [Big Grin]
