I've been wondering about this for some time. How do you use them and what purpose do they serve?

If you're talking about the spring steel clips with the stamped screw hole in the center of one plate, they are intended to allow the attachment of accessories to thin fiber constructed panels. Like speakers, grills, and assorted trim panels to either cardboard or masonite door or deck panels. the clip is placed over the edge of the panel and aligned with the mounitng holes for the accessory to be mounted, screws are then fastened through this piece and into the trim panel. The speed clip allows for repeated mounting, where maintenance dictates that some parts need to be removed occasionally.
