Is it safe to mount an amp close to a car's gas tank? On the Lexus SC400s, the gas tank is in the trunk behind a panel and I want to mount an amp above it because that's the only space that is big enough to hide something the size of a amp.

Under the deck is not a good idea, heat rises therefore making it harder for the amplifier to dissipate heat and compromising performance. If your only options are close to the fuel tank and under the deck, I'd suggest the wall of the trunk, just be careful. Take some extra time to look behind the panel where you want to mount the amplifier, and use some common sense when choosing the mounting hardware, bigger is not always better.

I mounted it right side up, underneath the deck, with the amp rack bolted to the underside
