I just RE-installed my amp in a different location, using the same ground and rca's, and it was workin perfectly before. Now, when music is paused, it makes a breathing type sound. I dont get it? I dont have an extra pair of rca's, so how can i tell what the problem is?

run the other set of rca's from your deck straight to the amp. dont run it under the dash or anything.....just straight through the car keeping it away from anything that would cause noise in it. if it doesnt fix the problem then try a new ground.

the thing is i DO NOT have another pair of rca's. and i dont get how just moving the amp a foot back in the trunk could cause noise. Im thinkin either its the ground or the rca's are shorted, but i want to know how i can tell which it is without having to buy another pair of rca's until im sure.

try a new ground. is the amp screwed into metal anywhere? thatll do it too.

if your amp has high level inputs try those also.

Radio waves are about 3 feet long, so if the length of the rcas that you are now running is a multiple of three, then teh radio waves could be interfering with the signal. Just a possibility that the length from the deck to the amp before was not close to being a multiple of 3, and now it is.

Here's something an installer told me a while back. You can use a shorting plug (which is essentially an RCA cable that's cut and both leads are twisted together) instead of the regular RCA's. If the noise goes away, then the signal path is the problem. If the noise remains then it is probably power related. Thanks, Mark Fenske

I think that I had the same problem with my phoenix gold amp. What my problem was, was the brackets coming off the amp to brace it to a particular surface was metal just like the amp. When I screwed the amp to the floor of my truck it gave out a wining noise. As soon as I un crewed it it ran awesome. I had to put rubber grommets between the srcew and the amp! Hope this helps!
