The manufacturer recommend a box, they gives the internal volume and the externel messures for the ported box, but it is a problem, the port is longer than the deep side, and in any other way you look the box, the woofer wont fit, so I was wondering if the recommended port's size is 4" diameter and 16.4" long, I could make 2 ports of 4" diameter and 8.2" long

What do you think?

The brand is JL audio.

Thnx

You could just have a bend in the port. If you are using 4 inch pipe get a 90 degree elbow. You cannot use two ports with the same diameter and just use half the length of one port. The tuning would be a lot higher and will not sound good. Otherwise you could use a smaller diameter port but this will not be as efficient and you may hear port noise. Also with a larger box the port length will go down and the box efficiency will also go up.

go to JL's website. They give the formula for figuring port size in thier tutorial section. Pretty good site, lots of info.

lets make it simple......list exactly what sub u got (eg. 12w3-D4) and what type response u looking for? maybe saveyourself the work of replyin and just pop the parameters into winisd to design a box that u like...it gets too confusing--some manufacturers give internal dimensions, some give external dimensions, some give net volume while others give gross volume....too confusing...figure out how many net cubes, what tuning you want. calculate your port size. then simply add the thickness of the mdf. i think it's less confusing that way.

i'm surprised i didn't notice that at first....playin around w/ a adire brahma on winisd you could put that sub in a 1.4 cube box. one 4x16.4" port gives you a 35 hz tuning, which is pretty good tuning for a sq/spl mix. now when you use 2 4x8.2" ports, your tuning jumps to around 65 hz. that will be VERRRRYYY high!

slot port is the way to go...i think it's quite easy to bend...
