well here's the deal......There are two soundstream 10" exacts in the trunk of a chrysler....i don't remember the model....it's an average sized trunk. It's powered by xtant. When the trunk is open the subs play loud and clean but when the trunk is closed it drops dramitically to about 1/4 the response. Is this because there is too little air in the trunk. Will venting an opening into the cab solve this problem. What is happening please explain if you can.

Put a cardboard box over your head, and talk, notice how loud and clear your voice is.
Out here, we could barely hear you, and you couldn't hear us laughing either, anyway....where were we.....
Oh yeah, sound travels through the air until it encounters something solid, like your trunk lid and walls, then it reflects back in the opposite general direction. Opening a vent between your trunk and passenger compartment will increase the amount of sound that will make into the listening area, kinda like opening the door between two rooms, one of which has a stereo in it.

So basically what he is saying is to vent the trunk into the cab to let the audio waves travel into the listing area. Music is waves of air pushed throgh an enviroment at different frequinces to create sound. Once you optain a clean opening between the trunk and the cab you will have what you hear when the trunk is open...
