Hey, i got a huge problem with my head unit and skipping. All of my equiptment is pretty new. I am running a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X815, along with an MTX thunder 2300X amp with an EBC connected to it. Powering 2 12" JL W3's. When i turn up my bass, my HU skips like crazy. I didnt know what the problem was until i talked to some people who told me it was most likely my head unit vibrating and causing it to skip. I pulled out my HU and checked out the kit and install. I secured it better with some tape but it didnt seem to fix the problem. I have searched for ways to better secure the head unit but have come up with none. I was wondering if i wrapped it in foam or something would that help? Or would that cause it to overheat? Could this have anything to do with the cold weather? i am in Michigan and it gets pretty chilly here. Has anybody else experienced this problem? Please help if you can this is drving me nuts. I need my bass loud!!

ok, to start i would like to say that im no expert but i have heard of the lasers dampening system to harden or get harder when exposed to extreamly cold weather. this could be a factor. you may want to try the foam. if you are concerned with the heat factor, just put srips around where it comes in contace with the frame. my friend has the same problem in his durango. he has a D2 pushin one stroker15. he has to use his changer for comps.

the cold can cause skipping....till about a few minutes of use, then it's warmed up.

99% of the time, its just the installation. backstrap the back of the unit to the chassis of the car, and make sure the front's nice and solid too.

I've got a Kenwood 709 and same problem. My unit got worse by the day. Took it to get repaired and they told me it was perfectly fine. I finally gave up and bought me a different brand cd player, Clarion. Oh by the way my cousin has the same problem with his cd player, a Kenwood.

Your problem is probably that the head unit isnt gettin power. When the bass hits the amp pulls all the power from your alternator. You prpbably also expierence dimming headlights also. Personally I dont like using capacitors but that will probably be the ceapest/easiest fix.

I live in Michigan and had a sony cd player skip the day I installed it in the summer. I thought maybe cd was dirty. Bought brand new cd to hear and got the same results. Returned H/U and got deh-p7200 and have not had it skip anytime. Bumps on road, train tracks, and even dirt roads doesn't make it skip. Not that its the problem of your h/u but come on, my never used cd player skiping within an hour and now haven't seen the problem since I changed units. PS installed the same way for both units with same mounting hardware.

What's up????
Our Alpine deck was doing the same to us too. The store told us that the deck couldn't handle all the bass. So they suggested that we get a CD changer put in the back. We have an Expedition with a wall where the 3rd row seats should be. 6 Rockford HX2 15s, the amps (3 chrome Rockford power 1100a2s) are mounted on the back of the wall. So we got the CD changer put in with dynamat around it and the deck stopped skipping. So maybe that is the problem with yours.

i have a kenwood kdc-x959 in my car and when i listen to mp3s i can crank the shiz out of the bass and its all good for about 10-15 seconds (depending on how bad the bass is) and then it'll skip. i know its the player because i can crank it for like 6-7 seconds, then turn it down and a couple'a seconds later it skips (bcause it was reading skipped material ahead of time). think i should invest in an ipod or a kenwood music keg to solve my daily skipping problem? if i WERE to get a cd changer, do you think ANY cd changer could rad and transcribe the mp3s for my deck?

its voltage drop 100%
Ok- if this statement is true, What if I let it get ahold of my 16 volt battery bank!!!
I don't personally believe this because I used my Kenwood(junking it by the way!), in a podium ran with 14.4- undisturbed by the system, because my amps ran off of stored only power from a 16 volt bank in the trunk. My alt never worked, so I just used a charger between runs. Now, No draw whatsoever, the podium box sitting on the trunk lid - of all places- skipped like a raped ape!!
So , maybe 99% voltage drop??????? Not 100% though!

any other comments? I have a kenwood excelon kdc-x817 and i get skipping only when it's turned way up. i used to run a D2 in my system and it would only skip when it was turned way up, thus the d2 would be taking a lot of power.
