my cousin has a Harley with the factory system added later. Anyways, he wants an after market deck, but wants to keep the handlebar controls. he's replaced the speakers with some Kicker speakers ...but he said they would "cut out" off and on. he said he searched the harley forums and supposedly everyone's had that problem and the only place to get anything for it is through harley, or harley related sites... what's the deal??

ALSO... what wire in the harness would he need to cut to undo the volume attenuation? He said he'd rather control the volume himself rather than have it done automatically.

any help?

if you have a wiring diagram... you can probably download one and it will give you a list of wires and their would probably be something in that range(attenuation)

also the reason that the kickers cut off is a harley speaker is rated at 6 to 8 ohms and my guess would be 4 ohm on the kickers... its too low of an impedance for the factory amp to handle

I have a 2000 HD SE Roadglide and when I bought it the radio was removed. I bought a factory radio for it, and added 4-ohm speakers by Infinity. No problems. Worked fine. Tell him to check and make sure his noise attenuator switch is off. It will cut out if it is on, and the sensor is not in the right place. As far as changing out the radio, there is a Sony CD conversion that was being sold on Ebay. It is not a simple task to convert one, but this company that sells on Ebay did. Plugged right in, and the handlebar controls worked. Attenuator worked too. Another thing that is sold for it is a plug in amplifier by Hog-Tunes. It is basically a plug right in amplifier. Change out the speakers to more wattage, and it will supposedly be louder... Hope this info helps...

yea... saw his harley on superbowl sunday..... the speakers he has are 8Ohm ( figured that from HK)..... the Kicker speakers he had were ( i'm guessing) 4 Ohm ( or lower)... that would explain the "cutting in and out" he mentioned...... he's got the right speakers in there now, and just wants a new HU........ He asked me to deaden the cowl for better sound... but hell... no $$$ no deadener!!!!!!!!! lol....

need to get one of those Sony HU's!
