These cars have a plastic spacer that brings the speaker away from the metal door panel about 2". The door panel is very deep and this spacer more or less seals the speaker up against the door panel. I am planning on installing new midbasses in this location and was wondering if anyone had any experience with this spacer? Would deadening it on both sides and to the door panel be enough reinforcing if I am planning on using ~75 watts to each speaker or do I need to make a new spacer?

Any insight would be helpful. Unfortunately the best I can tell these cars and the Mazda6 are not the same in this area.
