I have a yellow top battery, stock alternator for now(will upgraded to 200 amps soon) a hifonics bxi1606d and hifonics zxi6406. I have a 2.5 farad cap I want to hook up to it. The cap is used and i don't know if it's charged or not. Do I just hook it up before the amps and when I turn on the stereo the battery will charge it? also I plan on running 2 re sx's the the 1600 watt amp, are the good subs, or does anyone suggest something else. I have about 4 cu.ft. to work with...

I dont suggest using a cap but all you have to do is put it in line between the bat and the amp. it will charge when you hook it up.

You don't need a cap at all. Don't worry about it. I'm not even sure you need an upgraded alternator. I would install the system first, and then see what your charging system does.

if you wire it correcctly, you should be fine. I have WAY more power than you, and all I've done is upgrade the battery to a powermaster, and upgrade the battery to frame ground. I don't have light dimming issues and my voltage is fine.

I would say you are one the boarder of needing to up grade your bat and alt, but i agree with Andy you should try the setup first and then if you have problems upgrade. If you have enough 1/0 gage i would run the neg to the battery, it will help the situation. I will see if 1baginbuick still has the amp.

The way I have it now, I have The power wire going to a distributor block and 4 gauge running to the amps ( only about 2 ft. of 4 gauge) and the same for the neg. two short 4 gauges from the amps to another distributor then that has a 1/0 gauge going from that to the chassis. I do have a 1/0 gauge ground wire from the battery to the chassis also. I really want to hear it but I need subs. I was looking at the 12" re sx's. will them subs do good in about 4 cu.ft, tuned at 34 hz?
