I am mainly referring to the Pioneer AVIC D1/2. My wife just bought me one for my 2002 Elantra. 01-07 Elantras all have the same dash. Crutchfield says it does not fit my car, meaning there are no mounting kits made for it to mount into my dash I guess. But it can be done. I haven't gotten it in the mail yet so I can't really get a good idea of how it would need to be done. I was just wondering if any of you installers came across any of these installs and could tell me what you did to mount it. This is how Best Buy installed it in a guys; Elantra over at the Elantra forums, but this pic doesn't show how they actually mounted it:

My best guess is once you remove the front trim, you should be able to re-use the factory radio mounting brackets to attach directly to the side of the AVIC. And it should look exactly like above when put back together.

I havent touched an elantra but if there is a pocket underneath th h/u ther should be some iso mount brackets that you would transfer from the old h/u to the new. (as Mr C noted)

Originally, the car came with a single din cd player with a pocket under the radio. A few years ago, I had a double din Aiwa CD/cassette deck in there, and I can't remember for my life how I mounted it. I don't remember if I used the stock radio brackets or not. But I pulled my stock radio back out of storage and it doesn't look like I ever took the brackets off, but who knows. I'll figure it out, but I figured maybe I'd save myself some time by askin if anyone did this particular install before. Thanks guys, I let you know how it turns out!

You should be able to take the brackets off the factory radio.

Yeah it's iso din mount. take off the factory brackets and mount them to the dd and you're set.

X2 you'll just loose the storage pocket.

You'll use the factory radio brackets on the sides of the new radio.
